This is heavily exaggerated at least from my viewpoint. I guess it depends on how heavy the relationship is.

My friends make plans pretty easy even if one of them has a girlfriend. Usually they will just bring her along. Clearly we give them space so they can do whatever they would do, but one of my friends merely having a girlfriend hasn't affected much at least from my experience.
