Kind of doesn't make sense for the Hokage to be on the battlefield when he should be directing troops. But then again, when he wiped out that platoon of enemy ninjas Minato's comrades did not address him as Hokage????????

He probably was made a few years Hokage before Naruto was born. Anyways, Minato was Hokage, but there was still Hiruzen in the village. Just because Hiruzen retired doesn't mean he has less equal powers. Minato was never the type to sit in the couch. He had old man Hokage to watch the village and direct the troops.

Minato supposedly became Hokage after the 3rd Great Ninja War , Right before he turned 30..before that he was a Jonin and he was just Infamous for his Hiraishin/FTG jutsus and known as :
"Konoha no Kiiroi Senkō"/"Konoha's Yellow Flash" ..now that was after the mission of the Kannabi Bridge , i.e : when Obito was a Chunin ..but , apparently Kishimoto messed the time-line up .

What's to question? It's obvious that he is not Hokage at the time of this chapter, in part due to the Third Hokage still wearing the outfit. You post the pictures and still don't pay attention. He was likely made Hokage either not long after this or shortly before the attack on Konaha.
