You make a good point - with him mastering the Rasengan but I have to disagree.

According to Narutopedia, Konohamaru is aged 12 in Shippuden and he is still a GENIN ... Itachi passed the Chunin exam at age 10 - so that should already show you their different leagues, he then took the post of Leader of the ANBU aged 13 ... Let's face it, Konohamaru has a long way to go to reach to Itachi's level (not saying that he never will)

I was just about to say this. So at Konohamaru's age, Itachi was already in the ANBU if not a captain (idk exactly how old Konohamaru is but i'm guessing he's around 12). Konohamaru's strong and looks very promising but Itachi was a once in a decade genius. Oro shat his pants in front of him.

My perspective : Both Naruto & Itachi had special circumstances. In addition to their inherited clan attributes, the circumstances they grew up in propelled them forward, beyond the average leaf ninja expectations.
Naruto's hardships provided him with a strong will, ambition & motivation. Naruto had/has a lot more stamina than others his age. Then, in addition to the all important "guts to never give up", Jiraiya came along & helped him learn to use his other [jinchuriki] chakra.
Itachi was prodded by his father to be the best and to be stronger[as in: never good enough].
And to quote a post made earlier here by NB member "Hinata Kun" Itachi was a "once in a decade genius"
