Standing at the outskirts of Amegakure, under the rock hideout where Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan were trained, Mystogan stood with his back leaning against a wall. He looked out at the rain falling beyond the small alcove, waiting for the man who would teach him the art of controlling the weather phenomenon.

Akuma picked up the scroll that held the training location he had agreed to. He hadn't seen Mystogan since the days of training him in Nekura jutsu (timeframe wise, this happens after all your training :p). Tranforming into Keigoku, he teleports to the outskirts of Ame and sees Mystogan waiting.

"We cant keep meeting like this."

I know we can't, but you're the only one who can help me get stronger, Akuma-sama. With that said, I thank you for taking time to meet me like this...
Looking out past his sensei, Mystogan watches the rain fall onto the ground, listening to it pelt the roof of the alcove and the ground of the area around it. In his slight daze, Mystogan's mind started to go blank as the hypnotic pitter-patter of the rain droned through his mind.
After this I should be strong.
Snapping out of his daze, Mystogan looked back at Akuma, awaiting a response.

Akuma smirks, hearing his pupil's words. Indeed he had been making him stronger, slowly but surely. First taijutsu, then the strongest of them, Keigoku manipulation, and now Rain Release.

"Hmph. Tell me everything you know of rain release, including it's natural uses, and it's uses on the battlefield."

Natural use? As in, rain in nature? In nature, rain, the element which I shall soon be learning to manipulate, is the product of the water cycle. As water on the land evaporates due to the sun's heat, the newly-formed water vapour travels upwards into the sky, where the cold atmosphere cools the vapour into droplets of water, observed from below as clouds. As more and more water vapour evaporates into the sky, and then condenses into water droplets within the clouds, the droplets come together to make the cloud denser. When a cloud becomes dense enough with enough water, it will be too heavy to remain in the sky, and so the water will return to earth as rain, the rain adding to the sources of water from which the water droplets originally evaporated, and thus restarting the cycle. Sometimes, chemicals within the water as it evaporates, or even added as the droplets are within the cloud via gaseous means, can cause the rain to have certain properties, the most common being Acid Rain.
On the battlefield, Rain Release allows the user to, well, control rain. In a very similar nature as to how Water is controlled through Suiton, one may use this Ameton to control pre-existing falling rain. Much like Suiton, Rain Release may be fairly versatile, though it is restricted at the same time; first of all, rain must already be falling unless the technique causes rain. Second of all, while rain that's falling can be manipulated certain ways, it doesn't have quite the versatility a few other elements have; the rain can be collected into a water source, can have the rate of formation and falling altered or halted altogether, the droplets themselves can be reshaped to have different effects; to smash down on one like a hammer or cut through one like a sword, or possibly even changing the properties of the droplets, like can be done already with Suiton, for example, making it sticky. Of course, I may be selling it short on that point, but used correctly, versatile or not, anything can be useful.
As for anything else I know about Ameton, it is comprised of Suiton and Fuuton, water and wind, much like Hyouton. I know that I was able to prove myself worthy of learning this Release by demonstrating my prowess with those elements against one of my peers. From what I remember, it is likely that this release originated here, in Amegakure, due to the high amount of rain that falls and the need for ninja to take advantage of their surroundings.

I'm not sure if I know much more about rain...

Good, good. You covered everything I was going to say. :p

Now, since I'm still relatively new to this training business, I haven't put together a template or guide for rain release so for now, I'll be using Leafeh-chan's template ^.^

template:
  • How you perform it (note: do not just copy what I did).
  • Advantages & Disadvantages.
  • How would you defend yourself from this jutsu.
  • The picture of the technique and/or anything else that you find interesting.
  • Questions?
Now that we got the template out of the way, let's begin! Rain is very simple and straightforward. It's a form of water releasing controlled through the medium of falling water droplets, or rain lol.

(Ame Tama no Jutsu) - Rain Bullet Technique
Rank: D
Type: Attack
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Description: By focusing chakra into the user's hand they are able to gather rain drops towards their palms, the rain is molded together by chakra and forged into a high pressured orb. Once done the orb will shoot away from the users hand and the user will be knocked back. If it hits the enemy the enemy will be sent away flying or unbalanced.

After it has first started to rain, focus chakra into your hand, causing rain drops to gather inside it, stuck together by chakra and molded into a rasengan-type sphere of pressurized chakra + water. After done, release it, shooting it away towards a target, knocking them back. As you use it, it pushes you back from the force.

Stepping out of the alcove, Mystogan holds out his hand in the pouring rain. Focusing chakra into his palm, Mystogan also sends the type of chakra out into the air around him to "charge" the falling droplets of water, using his two chakra signatures to draw the rain to his palm. As the water comes together on his palm, it naturally converges into one form; a formless "blob" of water. Mystogan then uses his shape manipulation to turn the "blob" into a Rasengan-like sphere. Then, while holding the ball of water and chakra, Mystogan extends his arm, aiming it towards a nearby rock, and compresses chakra at the back of the ball near his palm. Then, releasing the chakra, Mystogan sent the ball of water flying forwards, the force also pushing his arm and the rest of himself back with recoil.
This technique would be good for distracting an opponent, primarily by knocking them off-balance if they're focused elsewhere when the technique hits, thus allowing what they were focusing on, most likely a partner's technique, to be completed. However, this technique actually has quite some recoil, a downside I'm not sure I've ever come across before. It also can only be used when rain is falling, as with more Ameton techniques. As for defense, this technique would be fairly easy to defeat; I'd personally would probably create a small, compressed slicing wind technique to cut through the ball as if it were just another suiton technique; a small earthen wall should work as well.

I don't think many of these "Ameton" techniques are actually in the manga, so pictures may be hard to come by... Same with "interesting things". However, with this technique, I have no questions.

Thanks, LoK-sensei. :D

Holding out his arms, Mystogan began to send his chakra through the air and into the clouds high above them, where the condensing water droplets were coming together to form rain. Utilizing his chakra control, Mystogan infused the rapidly-forming water droplets in the sky above himself with his chakra, so as to be able to manipulate the rain as it formed. Then, as the rain droplets infused with Mystogan's chakra began to fall, he clapped his hands together, as he often did when attempting to control his chakra for the first time, but the technique he was practicing didn't call for handseals. Utilizing his chakra, Mystogan began altering the properties of the water comprising the falling rain, pulling on his memories of suiton training in order to replicate "Syrup Capture Field", making the rain droplets more viscous than regular water, giving them a similar sticky feel syrup would have. Mystogan then forms a handseal, creating a clone (don't want to describe how. xD).
Can you move?
Nope.
Good.
How is that good? It means my "break" technique isn't working?
...We haven't learned a "break" for this...
...

Anyhow... Sensei, this technique would be very good for suppressing one's opponent's movements, as that's what the technique is designed for, but it's more effective than it's Suiton counterpart. For one, when the opponent sees a random blanket of water which has no obvious offensive ability, Suiton's "Syrup Capture Field", and they are stuck, it's obvious what has happened. This technique allows the user to sneakily turn the rain into a sticky substance to restrict movement in the opponent, making it less obvious what is behind their sudden lack of movement. However, at the same time, the user is within the area of effect of the rain shower as well, which would stick the user at the same time as their opponent.
Now, the most effective way to defend against this technique is to not let the rain hit oneself at all. But in an instance which being caught in the sticky rain is unavoidable, there are a great deal of fuuton technique which create some form or another of vortex around oneself, which would create a specialized pressure zone to draw the sticky liquid off of the one using the technique. Another way would be to use the "Hiding in Rock" technique to phase into the ground, and as only one's body is phasing into the ground, the sticky rain will be left behind. Additionally, the "Water Replacement" could also be argued to work, as one could simply transform themselves into the less viscous version of water, the normal kind, and then the two waters balance themselves out before becoming solid once more. However, I'm not sure how the addition of more water, especially chakra-infused water, when using the "Water Replacement" technique would affect a person...
Finally, I'm just assuming the person using the technique will also be stuck by it. This is how it works, right?

Additional questions that I can't fit into my RP persona: It says "...which binds the opponent in place for 2 turns.this jutsu lasts for 2 turns." Is it repeating itself, or does that mean that the sticky properties of the rain lasts for two turn in addition to 'if the person gets stuck they're stuck for two turns', essentially meaning if they're stuck and can't get out of it they're stuck for three turns?

No, I don't think the user will be affected by the technique. It's almost as if you can target which raindrops turn into glue-ish rain. I believe it's the latter, the sticky rain falls for two turns. If an enemy is caught on the last turn, they are still stuck for two turns. As for Water Replacement, I believe that once an enemy turns into water, the combined drops would add up, I suppose, and while not making them become stuck, they'd move at a slower pace while they are water. It's like...if you drop some glue in a cup with water, doesn't some of it become sticky?

(Touei Ame Bushin) - Reflection Rain Clone
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This technique creates a reflection of the user, this clone is unable to touch physical objects or cause harm. Every move that the user makes the clone mimics at the same time. The reflection clone is destroyed after one hit, this is a tactical technique.

Manipulate the water to form a reflection of yourself through the water, bending the rain drops in the process.

Channeling his chakra throughout the air and into the falling rain drops, Mystogan began to concentrate for the technique. Manipulating his chakra within the small droplets of water in a similar fashion to how he manipulated his chakra when learning "Hiding in Camouflage", Mystogan began to warp how the rain drops reflected light, only this time instead of making them invisible like his concept-basing-technique, Mystogan instead causes the thick wall of falling water to act together as a mirror, droplets reflecting a different section of his body as they fell so that the entire falling wall of water droplets seemingly forms a perfect reflection of himself, obscured where there is no rain like Mystogan's real body is obscured where there is rain. Mystogan then begins to move around, watching his reflection, making sure it moved with him.
This technique is useful for tricking one's opponent into being unable to tell where the real me is without any form of sensing. However, at the same time, if one's opponent has any form of tracking, be it chakra sensing, some sort of pressure-based technique to locate solid objects, smell, or even listening well enough to the real me and the reflection, the technique can be found out easily. Personally, I would most likely treat this like any clone technique, probably taking care to throw a kunai at both the real one and the clone and waiting for my opponent's position to be given away.
If I were using this, and I threw a kunai, would my reflection's kunai be reflected as well? The same question as before, but with regular jutsu instead of kunai. Also, am I restricted to one reflection, or can I make more? Finally, can I cause my "clone" to be reflected anywhere within the rain?

To the best of my knowledge, if you threw a kunai, the clone would appear to throw kunais as well. As for other jutsu, I am unsure. I believe water or other rain jutsu would be applicable but none of the other releases. The jutsu says a clone, so if you use it, go with just one, to keep things on the safe side. And only short range of you.

(Amegakure No Jutsu) - Hidden Rain Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: A jutsu that can only be used in rain to conceal oneself, this jutsu is considered a dynamic form of henge. After performing a row of hand-seals, the user seems to disappear. In truth, they have merely assumed a form that mimics rain. Fast movements and physical contact with others may reveal the user

Similar to the jutsu you just used, this one bends the rain around you, to cause it to appear as if you have disappeared within the rain. In all actuality, you are simply 'transformed' into rain, hiding within it. If you move too fast, you can be spotted however. Too fast would be speeds above walking imo

I had a really hard time imagining this technique, even more so than the one before, so please let me know if my description's off.
___________________________________________
As the rain falls around him, Mystogan weaves the handseals he was shown. Then, channeling his chakra throughout the rain, Mystogan begins to "bend" the falling rain in towards himself, causing the rainfall to be particularly heavy around him. Then, Mystogan begins to channel chakra throughout his own body to almost cause himself to act like a mirror, as he made the rain act earlier, causing the falling rain to be reflected off of his body and essentially make himself invisible.
This technique, like the last one, is good for tricking anyone who is solely using the sense of sight to track an enemy, as the user will no longer be visible and can hide. However, like the last one, anyone who tracks a person by any other method doesn't have to worry about this technique. Personally, I find this and the last technique fairly pointless, as many opponents I will go against will be smart enough to be able to rely on methods of tracing an opponent's location other than sight. However, I would personally defend against this technique with a special rain-causing technique I learned in my Suiton training; "Rain Trigger at Will". If I ever lose sight of my opponent in rain, this technique would be best to use as my chakra-infused rain would be hidden amongst the already-falling rain, making it hard to discern that I've used a technique unless the opponent can sense chakra, as well as allowing me to sense any person caught within my rain.
This technique is incredibly confusing to me, and as such I don't plan on using it very often, if ever.

This technique is so confusing; do I actually transform into droplets of water which just continually fall in an endless loop, or what's the deal with it? o_O

The way I always imagined it was that we manipulate the rain that's falling to hide us, not turning into rain but in a way similar to a genjutsu, make it appear as if we are rain. Like...picture Mystogan standing still. Then picture rain or water falling down him. The way the water looks trailing down him is how he hides, once it hits him, he looks invisible but if you look hard wnough, you could still are his outline where the water is sliding downhis body. I don't like this one nor understand it much either though.><

Hitoshirenu Ame Sai) - Hidden Rain Slash
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user manipulates their chakra to condense a single raindrop into a more solid form. The raindrop becomes as sharp as a blade. The disadvantage to this jutsu is that the raindrop falls in a straight line.

Manipulate a single drop above a foe to harden and drop quickly, as sharp as a knife and skewer the for from above.

But then it has that frikken "Henge" reference.... <.< How about I just promise to never ever use it? xD
________________________________________________________
Sending chakra thorugh the air, Mystogan concentrates on a single drop as it forms, overtop of Akuma's clone. As the drop falls, Mystogan causes the water to become hard, rigid and stiff with aid from his chakra. With the hard rain drop falling, Mystogan causes the drop to become pointed on the bottom, making it a perfect piercing weapon. As the drop fell, it sliced straight down the clone's spin, ultimately killing it.
This technique is a very good surprise strike, as one's opponent would be unable to tell that a simple rain drop from the sky, completely identical to any other rain drop which has harmlessly hit them, would soon become fatal. A disadvantage is that this technique only affects one rain drop, and that drop will only travvel in a straight line down, making it hard to time and make strike well. Personaly, I would like to begin a fight with this technique, or allow my opponent to use the "Rain Trigger at Will" technique, let the fight calm down so we're both standing still, and then kill them with their own technique. :zonder: To defend against this, I suppose I would simply step to the side; though first I'd have to find out when this technique would be used, so the best defense is to never stop moving.

And yes, the best way to defend against this jutsu is to minimize the time you are stationary.

Ame no Yari) - Rain Spear
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: By using chakra to condense a large amount of rainwater into one place, the user creates a spear of water in the clouds. The spear can at any time be called down to strike an opponent with only one hand-seal. The water will stay in the form of spear for a short amount of time (three posts). If the spear is not used by that time it will fall uselessly as rain. The only warning this technique gives is a second pause in the rain when the water is gathered and condensed.

A but useful, you compress the rain to form a spear. It lasts three turns until you cause it to strike the for. They have next to no warnings beforehand, other than the pause in rain when it is being formed and of course a spear of water being made lol

Channeling his chakra into the clouds, Mystogan focused the energy granted all ninja into the newly-forming rain droplets, causing them to, instead of falling towards the ground, be drawn towards a "central drop", which remains stationary. As the rain drops gather together, Mystogan uses shape manipulation to form the resulting water into a spear, waiting in the heavens above the intended target. Then, Mystogan claps his hands together and causes the spear to fall like rain, piercing through the target.
This, like the last technique, is good for a surprise attack from above. However, it is more noticeable than the pervious technique, and takes longer to form as well. When rain randomly stops falling over the opponent, it's easy to tell that something's up. The only advantage to this technique is size, which may not even be an advantage here. This technique would be best defended against with an earth dome which protects from area attacks, as one can notice the lack of rain falling, probably look up, and see the spear. However, I'd like to know; when the spear is formed, is it restricted to that one spot in the sky, or can I move it with my chakra?

I believe the first, unable to move around unless you create the one hand seal, moving in an unidirectional way.

And I'm sorry, I seem to have skipped one.

Ame Kasui no jutsu) - Rain Spike Technique
Rank: C
Type: Attack
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: 30
Description: The user of this technique must place chakra into one or more raindrops. As the drops of rain hit the ground they create a small sized spike of water from puddles on the ground. For this technique to work there must be water on the ground and it must be raining.

Pretty simple, you force your chakra into the raindrops, not necessarily all of them, and once they hit the ground, cause them form into a spike of water.

Holding his arms out to the side, straight out in a cross-like formation, Mystogan begins to channel his chakra into the sky. As his chakra travels upwards, it slowly infuses into falling drops, making several rain drops infused with his chakra as they fell. Then, as each of Mystogan's chakra-infused raindrops hit the ground, Mystogan caused his chakra to hold the water droplet together as it splashed outwards, causing the raindrop to become a multi-tipped spike where it would normally splash out of existence. As raindrops fell, the ground became more and more covered with Makibishi-like water spikes.
This technique, sensei, is very useful for turning the area of a fight against ones opponent. As they're moving around throughout a fight, one can use this technique in order to turn the ground into a field of spikes, ultimately forcing the opponent to stop moving. Then once they stop moving, any of the techniques which causes sharp rain to fall down from the sky, either as a single drop or a spear, can effectively be used, forcing the opponent to either move onto another spike or be pierced from above. This technique is also useful for, as far as I can tell about it, creating spikes on one's body, due to the fact that when the drop hits a puddle of water, which can easily collect on one's clothing, it turns into a spike. This way, the user can cover his body with watery spikes in order to augment his hand-to-hand combat. However, at the same time the user is unable to move into a range where the spiked rain is falling as once it's created, no one is immune unless airborne. Also, if the opponent figures out how to utilize this technique to create spikes over their body, that aspect to it may be used as a double-edged sword. To defend against this technique, the easiest thing to do would be stay put. However, as many battles require movement throughout, a technique useful for going straight from point A to point B would be "Earth Release: Earth Flow Divide", which raises the ground and then spits it apart, essentially creating new ground and making it safe to cross an area where there may not have been a safe path earlier. One could also use a jutsu which stops the rain from hitting the ground in the first place, or use any number of earth techniques to change the terrain, or a great deal of water/wind technique in order to wash or blow away the water spikes.

Ame Nottori no Jutsu) - Rain Capture Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage Points: N/A
Description: This technique causes a target of the user's choice to "attract" raindrops. The water in the rain drops will attach themselves over an opponent. Once enough water has gathered over an enemy it will also attach to the ground, holding the user's opponent to the ground.

Create a focal point for the rain, causing all drops to travel to that location, weighting a foe down with water.
