The anime is cause and effect. He went through so much stuff in part one and things are just getting better for him because of those events. Keeping someone down for a whole anime without getting any better would make this anime a stand still. Sooner or later the underdog has to rise and show everyone else what it can do.

Hard work can take you to great places.

Haven't stopped enjoying him as a character yet.

I have never disliked Naruto. Also, you arguments are kind of flawed because of hindsight. This means that you think that since Naruto is the child of prophecy (which has not been confirmed; he is still a candidate), it erases all the fights and struggles of his journey. This is wrong as you now have this knowledge but before you didn't and he didn't either so it changes nothing. He still trained with the Toads and got stronger through hard work and not by a prophecy.

Although I didn't like when he sort of stole the show from Temari against the Third Raikage with a clone.

Funny thing is, the child of prophecy thing is a two sided coin. He could have easily have been the one who destroyed the world, which would kinda have been expected, considering his upbringing. That what irks me about his character, his ability to forgive, but I do not hate him for it. He actually is one of my favs

I believe the "shortcut" ideal looks at the entire problem as a whole and not just the Hokage dream..
Naruto inherited a goal from Jiraiya: peace throughout the world. It seems stupidly impossibly, but Naruto would rather take this route and achieve peace in the real world then go through with Obito's destruction of the current world in favor of a new virtual world (even if peace if guaranteed).
