Fair justice is interesting ( eye for an eye) --however there are crimes where that is not applicable-- or the punishment would actually be a detriment to society.

I also think preventative justice ( lets say a individual could see the future- they would prevent/punish the ones who are going to commit a crime) would make for a fascinating one piece admiral worldview

However for myself- I would likely take a comparative justice view. In that I:
would judge actions acknowledging intent, circumstance, outcome, pro's and con's of punishment etc.... --- Above all in my comparative justice I would compare the costs and benefits that punishing the guilty have on society.
ie. Something bad happened--- I would ask why did it happen, tell me the whole story, and what is the most beneficial course of action to take now..

For example under my justice if a child accidentally killed someone I would view all the facts, "circumstances" and to the best of my ability determine an outcome that is most beneficial to society.
-I imagine I would get in alot of fights with "fair justice" because under that clause circumstances are irreverent- its only actions and outcomes.

My middle name is justice. Real Shit.

But mine would be moral justice. A system of crime that satisfies the need for moral closure of the most people possible while providing all evidence.

Pretty idealistic.... but meh.

The responses in this thread are very sad

But my favorite justice of the manga ultimately goes to Smoker. Coby an Aokiji are close seconds.

I like Coby because he can look at the big picture of an event and use his morals to cal the right shot, right being subjective. I'm referring to the seconds of courage he showed at Marine ford. To be completely honest I was so caught up in the action that I wasn't even thinking about their objective and it being accomplished, killing Ace. But he had a great point about them going overboard. I also appreciate that he's experienced serving under the people who holds a grudge and who he hates, pirates. I disagree with his desire to kill Luffy, but understand he must do it to sever all his ties with pirates he adores and sympathy for them. This shows that he's not blindly serving in the Marines just for the sake of it, but that he has an ambition.

I like Aokiji's because he's pretty much cool... he follows orders to the bare minimum to avoid making unnecesary trouble for himself, as well as others. Now #thatsrare. I mean he left his post as Supreme Admiral across the sea just to 'take a walk', and happened to bump into Nico Robin. Now any other marine surely would've given the whole crew hell for the sake of inconvenience, but he even got a chance to throw down with Luffy for real and let him live. And when he suddenly did decide that maybe they should all die, he explained himself with very good logic, which I thought was thoughtful (especially for someone of his rank who doesn't have to explain anything for anybody, instead of just blindly saying 'ok times up lets play the killing game', and he only really attacks after being attacked . So he's not a power hungry admiral, but one that thinks before his actions.

I also loved the way he felt so strong against serving under Akainu that he fought him and went rogue after losing. It takes a lot of nerve and humiliation to do that so I have tons of respect for him.

And Smoker... I love Smokers because he decides how to act based off of what history taught him, chasing Luffy before he became a threat like Roger. Now there is a mistake in that, because the Government fed everybody the lie that Roger was a bad man when I'm very sure that he wasn't (if he was he'd have wreaked havoc on Skypiea and killed God). But because he's a somewhat 'blind' marine to the true colors of the heads he's serving, that sort of evens it out. Anyway, back to Luffy... it's good that he's so ambitious on chasing him because Luffy will be the one to either initiate the next, next pirate age and start a new roar.

Now the flaw in his ways is that he believes that Luffy is still a bad man, even though he's been keeping track of everything he's been doing and he hasn't really done anything bad. But still, maybe this traces back to some hard memories he had in his younger days, following that motto of his that 'a pirate is always a pirate'.

I also like his best because he's not a gov dog and will not do their bidding if he feels it's unjust. He practically runs the government, given that he has yet to be punished for disobeying so many orders and breaking rules. He's almost 100% lead by his morals.

So yeah, that's my favorite.

Hmm ... I've thought about this (but never tried to define it). To me there's the extremes: the cop and the hippie.

The cop only sees the law. The hippie only sees the individual.

Personally, I can try to see it both ways. But when it comes down to it the way I think is this: each individual case deserves it's own consideration. I simply can't be like a cop who doesn't consider an idividual's feelings but only takes into account the law itself. Every case deserves to be examined both in light of prevailing laws (society's opinions) as well as individual circumstances.

As far as I can tell this puts me within the HUMANISTIC definition of justice, and close to the SOCIAL CONSTRUCTiVE definition (based on feeling, since I haven't studied the definitions in depth)

I respect the cop. I think it takes an infinite amount of courage to put your trust in laws which you didn't yourself create. But mostly I can't help but feel like every individual case is different from the one before. My intellect tells me that the cop's existence is necessary and beneficial to society. However my heart and my gut instinct tell me otherwise. Examples 4 & 5 make a kind of sense. 1-3 are totally alien to me.

ALSO I'd like to see where the creator of this thread is going with this. Are you planning to share the results of this survey? What's your personal standpoint etc?
