Danzo probably just wanted it to happen so he could get all those sharinganShisui said Danzo stopped him from using his kotoamatasuki (sp) to prevent the coup. Even took his eye. Why would Danzo do that? Just hypnotize Fugaku and be done with it. The massacre was an entirely preventable event that the Konoha higher up wanted to happen.
It makes perfect sense to me. Hiruzen didn't want to be Hokage; he wanted to step down and pass the job onto Minato. Minato's death forced him back into the position, which explains his willingness to let Danzo handle the 'dark side' of politics.Yes, I think Kishi ruined Hiruzen's character. Hashirama was way softer than Hiruzen but he took action when it was needed most of the time.
The manga states that Hiruzen already did attempt peace negotiations with the Uchiha and actually wanted to continue them. Meaning that they failed due to Fugaku rejecting them. It also states that Danzo was paranoid that Shisui truly wasn't on Konoha's side and didn't trust him. The war is also not rumors spread by Danzo, considering that 6 different characters confirmed it and that this is a shinobi world in which people have stepped up to protect their leader before. Hiruzen was a push-over and should have been less passive in his negotiations w/ Fugaku. Fugaku should have rethought the idea of leading his entire clan to suicide by facing off w/ Konoha in order to overthrow Hiruzen and gain political power. Both the Uchiha clan bar Shisui/Itachi and Konoha were at fault. Agree w/ everything else you stated though. My opinion on Danzo: The man was a brutal powerhungry thug. Here's what all of us need to realise: Shisui was going to stop the coup using KA. This is a peaceful solution with no bloodshed. But what does Danzo do? He steals shisui's eye! This shows that he never really cared about peace, and this whole uchiha massacre was nothing more than a means to get more sharingan.
Hiruzen could have actually talked to the uchiha personally instead of being danzo's lapdog.(Because let's face it, the uchiha WERE unfairly treated, and they had every right to demand more political power.) Overall, the whole mess was dealt with in a horrid manner.(And a war starting due to the coup is nothing more than rumours by danzo....)
Uh, no? Where did it specifically say that Hiruzen talked to the uchiha personally, and asked for peace negotiations? Furthermore, a coup is not a war. It's a surprise attack. I highly doubt that fugaku actually told hirzuen "hey,I am trying to take over the government..." And no, the uchiha were unfairly treated. I mean, Danzo/elders blamed them for the 9 tails attack and moved them to the corner of the village-that is totally unfair. Danzo was also a big problem, and hiruzen was a yes man who failed to keep him under control. I am absolutely certain that if Hiruzen had dealt with the elders/danzo properly, the uchiha would never have been suspected of wrong doing, and nothing bad would have occurred. The manga states that Hiruzen already did attempt peace negotiations with the Uchiha and actually wanted to continue them. When Obito was telling the truth to Sasuke, he stated that Hiruzen attempted to talk it out but then negotiations failed and it was too late. Never said that the Uchiha were not unfairly treated. The Uchiha had been living in the corner of the village since the days of Tobirama back when he gave them power through being in charge of the Police Force. Every Police Force is in the corner of a town, even in real life. The entire village suspected the Uchiha of the attack because every single Uchiha bar a 4 year-old Itachi holding baby Sasuke was absent from the village as well as battlefield and they never explained where they were at the time. It wouldn't have mattered what Hiruzen had done w/ the elders, considering that the majority of the village suspected the Uchiha for the Kyuubi attack due to Kurama only being able to have been manipulated by sharingan and the unexplained absence. Hiruzen cannot change the entire village's suspicion. A coup would initiate a war, considering that this story is about shinobi. If the Uchiha overthrew Hiruzen, considering the fact that he was the most-beloved hokage every shinobi that wasn't an Uchiha would try to stop them and the Uchiha would be executed for being traitors. The people would step up to defend their leader.Uh, no? Where did it specifically say that Hiruzen talked to the uchiha personally, and asked for peace negotiations? Furthermore, a coup is not a war. That's a good point. The Uchiha did have a right for more political power and their position was unfair. Hiruzen should have done a better job of dealing with Danzo & he should have pushed for peace negotiations. But the Uchiha clan is slightly at fault imo as well( I don't mean at fault for wanting more political power) due to not resorting to peace negotiations either. Hiruzen was a horrible leader & a pushover, but he still had a good heart for the most part. I don't think he would have turned them down.@chie
Obito isn't a very trustworthy source of information. I mean obviously he was telling the truth in general-but he lied to Sasuke about the fact that HE was the one behind the 9 tails attack.(and hence indirectly behind the whole uchiha mess if you think about it.) And yes, the police are in a corner, but I heavily doubt that all the police have their movements watched 24/7 by someother group.(In Konohas case, the ANBU black ops)
