So I've been trying for awhile now to get into One Piece. I read the manga, got somewhere around where Usopp was introduced and just couldn't find any reason to continue. Then a little while later I tried the anime, didn't make it very far either - only a few episodes to be honest.
When I heard about Pirate Warriors 3, I started looking into it. When I found out that the story mode began at the very beginning of the manga and continued all the way through some of the most recent chapters [at least at the time of it's release], I figured I'd give the game a shot - I can get into a game, as they're interactive. If I couldn't get at least slightly interested/invested in the story through this game, then I'd just give up on One Piece entirely.
Now Im assuming this game is fairly accurate to the source material - at least as far as the main plot points go. Then again, I really wouldn't know. Anyway, where I am in the game is my ship just flew up a water spout and we are now flying upwards towards a city in the sky. If that's still a little vague, after a little research that lands me somewhere around chapter 237 - A fair amount of plot progression, had I read this all through the manga.
Im enjoying the game, because again it's a video game and It's a lot easier for me to be engaged with what's happening when I personally have to interact with it. However, I can't say that Im all that invested in the story so far. That may be because Im playing a game, and maybe this game doesnt do the narrative justice (though to be frank, I think I get the gist of things just fine so far).
So I ask all of you; if you're a fan of One Piece, why are you? And at what point did you get hooked? Have I played my way through the point where most people get hooked - thus theres just no hope for me? I intend to finish the game, because again I am enjoying the game, but as far as the story goes if I had to return the game tomorrow and never look back I really don't think Id miss it all that much.
