What would have happened if jiraiya was in town when orochimaru attacked

Oro would be dead. If Jiraiya had gone into SM while Hiruzen fought them off, it would've been over much sooner.

While the edos were on the ground, severely crippled by the paper bombs, Hiruzen could have done more damage or used a sealing jutsu to finish them off. Jiraiya can last against Orochimaru without sage mode. He might not win, but he certainly won't go down easily.

Edit: I think it's also important to note that those edos weren't as powerful as the ones used against Juubito.

Of course they were not. Orochimaru brought them at their full power in the war. But they were Edos regardless, and even in that condition, Hizuren was getting his ass handed to him.

Orochimaru only lacked a body for Dragon Sage mode. Now we know for a fact that a large reserve is required for SM. I don't think he can last Orochimaru.

Orochimaru wouldn't have been so arrogant. Orochimaru alone is stronger than Jiraiya, which was stated, and proved. Hokages could keep Hiruzen busy until Orochimaru tongue chokes.

Dude's when Jiraiya get's serious, he's a beast.. Plus remember he can summon two sage's *Pa & Ma* so he doesn't need to stand in one place before goin into Sage mode.. Had Jiraiya known pain's secret do u think pain wuld have survived(pain himself said this)? Can Orochimaru defeat pain?
