If you watched shippuuden 80, you will see that Pain can speak with other members from great lengths. Using his powers from that location of the statue. He controls his bodies and chakra flow from that building. We know that the metal in all the bodies are receivers for chakra. Meaning it picks up signals of chakra. So, when you saw Kakashi uses his technique. With those receivers; Pain can pick up all activity in the surrounding area. By doing that he can disperse any chakra in that area, like lighting for example. He's like lighting rods for chakra, and through these metal piercings he can see the whole area. Being able to see every movement the enemy makes. Add the fact that he's mastered every elemental chakra; and The Six Paths of Pain is the creator of all jutus. Only Naruto can stop him, but Danzo took care of that. Maybe because of Danzo's actions, Kakashi will die!!!
My friend I came up with something at work. The rings that the members wear are strange to me. You think it is possible that they are receivers, so that Pain can keep in contact wherever they go? Maybe the rings are made up of the same metal that Pain's bodies are covered in. I bring this up, because Pain was able to speak to both members in shippuuden. Either he uses those rings(maybe that's why they don't leave them behind) to contact them or he used the white birds to send the message for them to retreat. What do you guys think?

I think you have some good points. I especially like the ring idea. However I'm not sure that they are communication devices. They are obviously important, since Orochimaru kept his, and Tobi had to find Sasori's in order to join Akatsuki. If they were used to communicate, then Orochimaru would have always known what they were up to. It was made obvious that he (Orochimaru) didn't know their plans.

Now, what you said, did give me an idea. If you notice, the 'gate' that they Akatsuki open is shaped as a mouth, it has two hands:

. And whatever finger the Akatsuki member wears his ring on, is the finger they stand on. I'm not sure exactly how the rings relate to the gate, but there is definitely a connection. Isn't there a symbol or kanji on the rings? I remember seeing a mark in the middle of the circular portion. Does anyone know what that means?

However, I wonder where he is. Back in Amagakura? Could he control them from that far away?

He has some sort of control over the weather, so I think he could use that as some sort of cover. Although it is not raining in the current scenes. I don't know. I am certain he's controling them from somewhere else, but where is the real question.

I think that's the beauty of his technique. You can kill all six bodies, but he's not defeated. He can get more bodies, or possibly reanimate the originals. I wonder if they're like zombies, souless but still alive. Or are they just inanimate objects he controls? There are so many possibilities to consider!

The rings are not receivers then, because Orochimaru would have used it. Good point, that just leaves what you said about the rings. I noticed that each members ring has a different symbol, and that these symbols stand for each finger. When they stand on a finger of the statue it matches the ring they wear....

The metal on the bodies is like a telephone receiver, and the building is the other line. He either sends his chakra through this connection or he uses God realm to relay the message. Remember Whenever something funny happens, like Kakashi's chidori getting blocked. You see Pains eyes in the background; that stands for orders that he is sending to the bodies, because they are all connected with those eyes. Even the statue has these eyes....

I noticed that the absence of Akatsuki members makes little difference. Apparently, so does the absence of a ring, since Oro always had his. Maybe this mean that the rings act as some sort of chakra conductor between the wearer and Pein? Maybe the combined/borrowed chakra helps make the process happen faster? Or, another possibility is that the rings must be worn to stand that close to the gate, something like a sheild?

And I bet Pain can cut off these connections. Maybe he cut the connection with Orochimaru's ring and replaced it...

That's a good point! If he can cut off the connection, then they COULD have been used for communication. I hadn't thought of that!

Of course, they are likely used for multiple purposes. Though communication is probably the most important. You said earlier he could communicate with the other Akatsuki members over long distances. Perhaps these rings act as receivers as well?

On another note, do you think Pein is a genjutsu user? I noticed that the bodies of the Akatsuki members are not actually present at the gate. They are often in other places in the world. I wonder how that works? Is the extraction taking place in the actual world? Or is it happening in 'another space'? Such as the one Kakashi sent Deidara to? Or is it all a genjutsu Pein can use due to his eyes?

As shown in the latest manga, Pain was seen dispersing Kakashi's energy when he did his chidori fang technique. Pain uses highly advanced genjutsu's on shinobi, like the man they have right now. I'm betting he can see the flow of chakra, even the chakra points that run throughout the body. Adding two the fact that he has mastered all elemental chakra. Explaining how he can deflect any attack, as while as see the situation from a distance. I noticed something though. It showed Pain in shippuuden and the body he uses along with the rest are dead. So, that got me thinking; if the bodies are dead, then that means he can't sense natural chakra. Meaning he has mastered everything in the ninja world except Sage Mode. Only Naruto has mastered that part, and he is putting it to use.
