To let team 7 fight like old times sake and to make sakura amd kakashi relevant. I think her back story may play a part in this manga still but it was mainly to develop other characters and give the hokages and madara a good send off

That's true. But Kaguya herself was a disappointment. The same could have been achieved with Madara as the villain.(and it would have been better)

The point of her was to add a villain to the series without a heart. The first one ever.

Because Kishi was too stupid to write Orochimaru as final villain. He's been making poor decisions for years.
