Alright, if you've been on the base, you're sure to have seen threads and posts about the two-week break. Now, a lot of people don't seem to have grasped what a two-week break means. A two-week break doesn't mean we'll get the manga two weeks after the last one came out, it really means three.

When we have normal breaks, which is a one-week break, we get the manga, skip ONE week, and then get the manga again, TWO weeks later.

Now, if a ONE week break means we get the manga two weeks later, when do we get one in a two-week break? THREE weeks later, because the break LASTS TWO WHOLE WEEKS, hence the name.

We got the last manga two weeks ago. The week before last week was normal. Last week the break started, and it was the first week, this week is the second. Meaning we'll get the manga next week, or at the very least, we SHOULD get it next week under the definition of a two-week break.

Get it now?

Hm, I don't think that's it man, this break relies more on the issue numbers of Shonen Jump. The New year for Shonen starts tomorrow. Check the sticky out in the manga forum. Here's a post explaining why it's coming out tomorrow and not next week.
In the latest chapter it stated: "Next week the series takes a break. It will restart in Issue #01."

Everyone seems to think this means we have to wait until January for chapter 656, but this is not true.

The Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is assorted by Issue Numbers every year, and there are only 48 total Issues. Due to the fact that 4 of them are actually Double Issues, the last issue of the year corresponds with this and is numbered as Issue #52.

Issue #52 is usually released in the third week of November (next week, when Naruto is taking a break) and Issue #01 is released in the last week of November, which will be the beginning of the 'new WSJ year'.

Therefore, Naruto will be on break next week, as stated, but we will get chapter 656 in the week after.

While we are on this topic, I'd also like to clarify the differences between the mangaka (author) taking a break, and a Double Issue.

When there is a holiday, Weekly Shonen Jump will give us what is known as a 'Double Issue'. This does not mean we will get two chapters for one week. In fact, it means the exact opposite: we get one chapter over a two week time span. This is not only restricted to Naruto; it affects all of the WSJ mangas.

Outlined below are the dates of each holiday break that the Weekly Shonen Jump observes, along with the issue number for the corresponding Double Issue:

Issue #04-05 (3rd week of December) --> No WSJ in last week of December (End of Year)
Issue #06-07 (first week of January) --> No WSJ in 2nd week of January (New Year)
Issue #22-23 (last week of April) --> No WSJ in 1st week of May (Golden Week)
Issue #36-37 or #37-38 (first week of August) --> No WSJ in 2nd week of August (Obon week)

This Double Issue business is different from the mangaka taking a break. We cannot predict when the author will take a break, we will only know at the end of the chapter that precedes the break. An example of that is this week's manga -- the author decided to take a break for one week, and it was posted at the end of the chapter. Fortunately for us, Weekly Shonen Jump will still publish all of its other manga next week (i.e. Bleach, One Piece, etc.) because only Kishimoto decided to take a break.

I hope this cleared some things up for people out there who were still confused.

Really? Please enlighten me to how a two-week break lasts one week.

What Kuro Kami said, and having 1 week off takes 2 weeks to accomplish. If you think about it, we have a 1 week break after every chapter.

I don't understand why people can't just wait and see. Seems like they got nothing else to do but complain and whine. GOT NO LIFE!!!!

How is that a two-week break? Last I checked, two-week breaks meant you get time off for two whole weeks and then return. If the manga comes out tomorrow, then it was a regular break and not two weeks.

But it's not one week off, it's two. Think of it like two-week breaks during school, do you miss one week only, or two?

Or like the weekend, it's a two-day break because you miss two days right, but return three days later? Same concept here.

Last chapter we got was posted on: 11/13/13

Starting from there you count the week after as the 1st week of break: 11/20/13

This is the second week, and ending from what I've read, of the 2 week break: 11/27/13

It has technically been 2 weeks since we got the manga. There is already a scan out of the WSJ that contains the preview of what this week's chapter is.

So the break ends Wednesday? So, it's just like a regular break? Ok, ok, so we use Wednesday as the starting point, not Sunday?

Where are you getting the two weeks from bro? At the end of the last chapter, I believe it said Naruto will return after issue #1 of the new year, that's why some people initially bought we would have to wait til next year to get the chapter. It actually goes by Shonen Jump's new year calendar which has 48 normal issues and 4 double issues (that's when we get two week breaks I think). Issue #1 starts tomorrow, 4 weeks before the actual new year which makes sense because of the double issues. This break isn't going by a two-week break, its going by #1 of the Shonen Jump new year. Maybe you're thinking of One Piece.
