know this is my theory on what he meant by true power is based on a few points
1)as you have seen in the manga the s06p is a very nice hearted and careing person since he took the time to name the tailled beast,and when he had to chose between his older and younger son he chose the younger that believed love i necesary for peace not power.now these thing i contributed to his charachter in thinking of the meaning...now point to
2)now s06p was consider the god of shinobi now there a nother person with that nickname...the 3rd hokage now what did he say to orochimaru way near the begining before he died he said that true power comes from the will to protect those you love not the mastery of jutsu...so the will of fire
3)in reference to one the younger brother the one given his blesing was the origin of the will of fire so what im saying is that the will of fire is what he means when he says true power.

Well he didn't really say his way was wrong, the translation was just weird in the *********** version, I brought this up in another thread and Kirin translated it for me...the sage said:

The bolded part is what you're talking about, he was basically just saying to be different than the Juubi, since when they were inside of the Sage they were the Juubi, not seperate beasts.

Anyway though I do think that he was talking about the will of fire, or rather, friendship/love/courage, etc, since the will of fire wasn't really around then.
