Agree 100%, Kishimoto did this to let us know that Obito Uchiha shouldn't have been underestimated. As soon as I saw that dude's face I was like, damn.... I underestimated him.
Everyone thought that he was going to be some legendary Uchiha, but they never understood the genuine and powerful nature of Obito. In short, they didn't think much of him. Tobi is Obito. So it doesn't make sense to say which you prefer. Obito was simply a genius and could alter his personality to fit his plan. There are no "two" different people there.

Hey I was just wondering....Tobi acted silly a lot too early on, remember when he did that whack a mole thing when he first ran into Naruto and Kakashi and the whole group in the forest when they were trying to find Saske as he fought Itachi? That must have been hard for him to act like that, especially with Kakashi there who he has such a hatred towards. He really is good, he's dangerous, being able to control himself like that. He's driven, he has a plan and he will let nothing stop him, not even himself! (his own emotions)

Actually no, remember Obito is a goofball by nature like Naruto. He was keeping his true feelings suppressed the whole time, he is a master of his emotions. When he was playing around with them he was more like his old self than any other time.
I'll admit, the Bijuus might not be able to do much against Hashi, but Kamui totally defeats the purpose of all of Hashi's techs. All Obito has to do is sense where Hashi is, warp to him, and then warp Hashi to his personal dimension where he can contemplate where he went wrong in life.
1. Bijjuus originally belonged to Hashirama.. so Obito can't have them
2. Bringer of Darkness> Obito's genjutsu
3. Higher chakra then Obito
4. Strongest shinobi of his time
5. Medical ninjutsu
6. Scroll of seals
Get on his level dawg. Madara says: Hashirama > Obito. Kabuto says: Hashirama > Obito.
Alright.......everything that is said in this thread is from the heart:
I have heard way too much of this particular statement on NB, although I consider myself to be relatively in control of my emotions and thoughts, I must admit that it's getting to me.
The statement in question is...
Tobi was cooler than Obito.
First of all, let me portray my true feelings towards this statement and the people who make it....
:sy:
:flaw:
Now let me explain in short, why that statement is a sure sign of complete ignorance and a total lack of understanding for the author's motives and the story itself......
In the simplest form, The Masked Man or Tobi, was Madara. You see, Obito had a job to do, given to him by the real Madara. No matter what his true feelings were towards the world and it's inhabitants, he had to MAKE SURE, with his actions and demeanour, that the world perceived him as the true Uchiha Madara.
That was priority number 1
For only a man of Madara's stature and reputation, could influence someone like Nagato and make his words believable. Because the world knows, that Uchiha Madara is not a man to be trifled with or taken lightly.
He had a few things going for him as well, his Kamui. One of the strongest Mangekyou Sharingan techniques and the cells of probably one of the strongest men that ever lived and equally reputed as Madara, Senju Hashirama.
These powers somewhat made it easy for Obito to project immense strength and ability, and made people believe even more that he was Madara.
The hard part, was to act like Madara. Madara is arrogant and cunning but most of all.....Madara is the coolest person in the entire NV, by which I mean, he projects a completely calm and cool personality in all situations, even the ones that aren't in his favor. Madara never gets worked up or emotional.
That was the most important thing for Obito to project with the mask on, an attitude that said, he had the upper hand, he was in control and he had nothing to worry about. Even if things weren't going well for him. After all, he had the greatest escape tactic in the entire NV, which is intangibility and instant transportation, Kamui.
That is why in the Land of Iron, when he was standing right next to the man who killed Rin.......Kakashi, he calmly answered all their questions, he didn't once show his true emotions, he just casually had a chat with Naruto as Madara, and left with style and a polite goodbye.
His greatest act came in front of Sasuke, where he had to establish himself as the man who knew all, in order to gain Sasuke's trust. So that he could mix in his lies with the truth to manipulate Sasuke's actions carefully, and send him after Konoha and the Kage Summit.
BUT YOU SEE, ALL OF THAT^ IS NOT THE REAL MAN WHO WAS BEHIND THE MASK!
Obito is a different man from Madara, but not by much.
We get a glimpse of his true self against his fight with Konan, when he reveals his ugly, angrier side for a small moment:
"There is no peace, there can be no hope."
When the mask came off, and there was no more need to pretend, Obito's true personality surfaced!
It means that not only did the removal of the mask reveal his face, but also who he really was on the inside!
This particular change, is Kishi's writing at its absolute finest! Many people failed to see that.
Obito is a much angrier, more ruthless man. He doesn't feel anymore need to keep his emotions under control. He lets himself go at times, you have seen this, when he mercilessly assaults Kakashi upon hearing Rin's name from his mouth.
When he makes it known loudly and clearly, that he finds their current reality to be a useless failure of a world, which keeps producing trash like himself and Kakashi.
He declares, that he will stop at nothing to erase this pathetic reality from existence at any and all cost.
Uchiha Obito is arguably one of Kishimoto Masashi's greatest works as a writer, the other one being Naruto.
I wanted to make sure you knew that and I hope you learned something from this.
Here is the thing. Although I agree with all you said. It has nothing to do with the fact that people may like Tobi more than Obito. Tobi might be a Obito's impersonation of Madara, but it's not Madara. We know for a fact that Obito went in many ways against Madara's plan and thus making the character Tobi unique and singularly different from both Madara and Obito. Maybe a mix of both and something of none. You further give strength to this idea by stating the excellent work Kishi made (and I agree 100%!) on changing Obito's personality once his mask finally fell off.
So ultimately your whole post despite me agreeing with it clearly establish that Tobi and Obito are two very different characters. It is a matter of personal opinion which one you like the most.
For example my favourite character is Orochimaru, my second favourite is Tobi.
I like Tobi more than Obito because Tobi was cooler, not in terms of being more stylish but of actual coldness of thought and reasoning, planing. I loved the character because of it's ability to act! We've seen Tobi going from complete akatsuki clown, to big shadow puppeteer, to enrage and hatred fuelled Obito. But the when the clown turned into the cold manipulator that was the most drastic transfiguration it showed the most lucid and tactical master mind of the entire NV. I agree that said pose was Obito's take on Madara's personality, however I do not like Madara as much as I liked Tobi. Why? Because Madara is way more rushy than Tobi. Tobi never putted one step after the other before he had all angles covered. He bound his time doing things and never rushed into nothing.
So in this case both Madara and Obito are more rushy then Obito's impersonation of Madara. So as you see it's a matter of opinion.
Sorry I just think intangibility it too good a power to be interesting. Pain controlled gravity but at least you had five seconds. Even Madara can be hit as evidenced by lee but fn obito just phases through everything and uses that one jutsu nonstop
I just don't understand why Tobi/Obito went along with being Deidara's butt slave for years, then switched to acting as a serious Madara, then to an emotional crybaby... Could Kishi just not choose what personality he wanted Obito to have? Couldn't Tobi just come out from the start as his normal self or was he THAT afraid of Nagato??

Well everyone has their opinion, because to be honest after seen madara's true personality from himself i dint see tobi coming really closed to that. anyway.
To me obito was more likable as the mask man because now its nothing than the worst whimp kid ever over the dead body of a girl that dint even liked him in the first place. stupiest reason to be like he is!
plz re read the manga. Obito has good reasons to be how he is. You people dont understand that. OT: Its perfectly understandable if people like Tobis personality more cos I did too. They are the same person with two different personalities
