Honestly he's far better.

-main characters remain relevant
-SIDE CHARACTERS remain relevant... Even the smallest people come back.
- the level of foreshadow...EXTREMELY subtle foreshadow...is astounding
- so far there hasn't been anything extremely questionable in terms of how it happens...like some of the recent things like Madara surviving bullets.

When you add up the little things... Oda is just an amazing story writer.

But the war arc was long enough to give everybody great development but the first half was horrible. What about the Gaara retrieval arc, Team Guy was there but they didn't do shit and they got no development (other than Gai). What about the Sasuke retrieval part 2 arc, team kurenai was there but they didn't do shit other than get toyed around with by Obito. Many missed opportunities by Kishimoto leaves him room for no excuses. He's still amazing, I couldn't have come up with the story that he did. Oda is still better at development because even the side characters that aren't part of the straw hats have more development than Naruto's main.
Develop what exactly? What does Lee need that didn't get in part 1? What does Neji need that he didn't get in part 1? Maybe TenTen, but we really know don't know anything unless you watch anime.

We keep throwing the world development around, but what exactly does that mean? Since the show is called Naruto and is about Naruto, the only development you'll get with side characters is how they see Naruto.

not exactly
Fighting is mostly what happens in one piece so basically everyone can get in a fight and show off their skills in a one on one fight. it repeats like this every arc pretty much
kishi is more of a storyteller theres obviously not as many battles so theres less development in that aspect
one thing that kishi does do is develop his antagonists, backstory wise, whereas oda doesnt even give an explanation as to how the antagonist became an antagonist
the only one is Arlong
Yeah that is a pretty good point actually but Oda's world is sooo much larger so the fact that he has so many characters that he can keep relevant is impressive to me. Just imagine how trash One Piece would be if he only focused on Luffy and Zoro the same way Kishi does for Naruto and Sasuke. Like I said Kishi had the opportunity to give everybody a great fight in the war arc, instead he just focused on Naruto coming and saving everones asses, that's corny to me. And I hate people say "the show is named after him" that doesn't mean sh*t, sure Luffy always ends up defeating the main guy but he's not always there to steal everyone's moment..I thought it was so terrible whn Naruto showed to the war and saved everyone.

Honestly he's far better.

Difference of opinion and type you like.

I read one piece for what it is and bleach for the action and Naruto for what it is.

Oda has a bigger manga he has time for development.. Kishimoto doesn't, he only develops the people he sees are fit to the story.

What I like about One Piece is that I feel like the world is a lot "bigger" and more complex. More lore, and just overall not as as simple.

In terms of the fighting, it's inconsistent at times... but I LOVE that the characters stay mostly consistent - can't say the same for Naruto.

I love that there's no generic white and black with the marines. You have your bad, reckless guys from the Marines, but there's also disgusting people from the pirates aswell.

This series is slower but slower doesn't mean worse. Heck, if something slow leads to arcs like the one we got at the moment which I consider to be the most craziest then go for it.

I won't say anything about their general writing skills but I will say that One Piece is better written and more complex then Naruto. There's a few things such as Itachi's shocking twist which I consider to be on One Piece level but generally I just enjoy One Piece a lot more.

And to me that is bad writing, just because someone is a main character doesn't mean everyone else's lives and thought process has to revolve around that person, that's corny to me. So Mr.FellowSasukeFan, how would you feel if Kishi shunned Sasuke like he did everyone else since the show isn't named after him

Btw glad to see you're back, your Sasuke threads are the funniest on the site lol

I can't argue what you call bad writing. Only character who lacks development is TenTen imo.

We think because a character isn't as strong as Sasuke or Naruto they lack "development".

Not even just strong enough, shikamaru got great development not because he defeated Hidan but the way we saw him mature through the death of his sensei and how he moved on, but what about everyone else..what have they done that has been remotely interesting?..Well Hinata has been good too lol

its not exactly like he can develop them
luffy's crew is with him 24/7 so there just waiting to be developed
Oda deliberatly puts them in these one on one fights each arc and its kinda just the same thing
Naruto is in a group of four/five so unless he brings all of k11 into each arc i dont see them beig developed as well as the straw hats
in reality, the nine of luffy's crew are the only ones ever being developed so how is that amazing writing?
theyre the only ones getting in fights, they're the only ones with backstories, theyre the only ones ever really doing anything.
you dont see people from trafalgar law's crew ever get in a fight or get stronger
so really Oda has been developing like 10-20 characters just like kishimoto
the difference is Oda develops the same characters over and over again

EDIT:btw i do believe everyone did have their moment in the war from k11
Kishimoto should take notes from the mangaka of attack on titan, i want to see DEATH ! a lot of death people!
i guess you didnt hear the news...
hajime isayama was planning on killing all the characters in the series pretty much

Naruto has gone to shit. I don't read a lot of One Piece, but from what I've seen it's better.

If One Piece ever takes off in the west like it did in Japan it will surpass DBZ.

You need to remember that Naruto and One Piece are very different stories.

One Piece is much more group oriented around the Straw Hats, while the story of Naruto focuses on the axis between Naruto and Sasuke.

In my eyes they are both good stories in very different ways.

@bold: What? So many other characters have been getting development in OP. Ace, Shanks, Jinbei, Hordy Jones, Arlong, Boa Hancock, Law, Doflamingo, Buggy, etc have been developed with backstories even back to their childhood, so many characters get development in the story. It's funny that you mention Law's crew when Oda already stated that Law's crew is on the next island the Strawhats plan on heading too.

Even still, the 9 Strawhats find themselves working with others and we see plenty of other people in fights and later become relevant in the story outside of fighting, hell, Oda recently brought back a female character who had nothing to do with fighting at all. While Kishi has mainly 3 characters who are constantly being developed in plot and the fighting.

I understand you like Naruto better but I don't see how you can knock Oda for "developing the same characters over and over again" when Kishi does the exact same thing but with fewer characters. It's hypocrisy at it's finest.

The difference between them is that Oda is taking his sweet time to develop properly his story and characters,on the other hand Kishi rushes stuff.

Kishi has killed more side characters then Oda has.

Oda has only killed two Ace and Whitebeard, Oda doesn't even kill his villains off.

Kishi has killed many characters off across the series.

Kishi has killed more characters in the war arc then Oda has in his entire manga.

Kishi's downfall was deviating away from Naruto's true goal (hokage) and focusing on chasing Sasuke. Plus he should of emphasized the importance of medical ninjas, so Sakura becomes more useful. The start of shippuden was the series downfall.

Oda takes his time with development so we can appreciate the importance.

Yeah I'm not gonna lie some of the people that Oda kept alive was so ridiculous to me. Like the bird guy from the Alabasta arc that flew up into the sky so the bomb wouldn't blow up the city and somehow survived the explosion..that was bullsh*t.

Oda doesn't need asspull and PnJ
You kidding? There are lots of things in OP that are downright illogical, and pnj.

Ohh the stars happen to line up perfectly for luffy to manage to go against all the odds and manage to save ace?
Ohh many many times characters take lethal attacks and just pretend it was nothing. Many times they recieve injuries that should keep them down for years, but they magically are good to go in a week, and fully healed in a month. Luffy magically can control where the air goes in his bones, but yet NEVER loses air from the hole he bit in his thump to inflate his bones to begin with. I could go on and on and on about the things that are just pnj and all.

That is full of pnj. It only happens because its part of the plot.

I do think Oda is a better mangaka(he is very in touch with fans, because he answers their questions etc), and because he is better at developing many characters. But Op still has many many more plotholes and pnj(and asspulls). Its has more inconsistancies than Naruto. But it is leagues ahead in side character development, and can be more emotional as well. It is a more rich manga.

I think if Naruto had OP development qualities then naruto could be the number 1 manga. But instead it doesnt.

I like naruto slightly more than op. I still recognize their strengths and weakness'.

At least im not blind to the facts as it seems you are.
