[Question] What made Gol D. Roger so strong?

So i started getting into One Piece around 3 months ago, and i just finished the Marineford saga.
Anyway, there has been a lot of hype regarding Gol D. Roger, but i was wondering, what made him so strong? Was it some special haki? a devil fruit? He was said to be equal to Whitebeard, who was CRAZY strong even in old age, so i'd just like to know if anyone has any clue of what made Roger the Pirate king.

Well im caught up with the manga wich is 1 arc ahead of the latest anime content xD we still havent gotten that much info about rogers powers.. But we know that Ace is his son by blood! You saw it as well didnt you? Ace used conqueres haki as a 10 year old imagine Roger then being rival with prime whitebeard he must be totally awesome!!

I didnt mean the haki itself i meant his potential in general. A 10 year old kid using conqueres haki.. I think roger mastered conqueres haki at a young age and mastered something above conqueres haki afterwards

Garp got the best Busoshoku Haki & Shanks got the best kings Haki.

I think Shanks was inspired by Roger not to eat a devil fruit since that takes away one great asset of being a pirate, the ability to swim. Therefore, I think he was a swordsman and a gunman, a hybrid. Monstrous physical abilities, haki and excellent swordsmanship/gunmanship that can match prime Whitebeard who had the strongest devil fruit. I think his haki was the best in the show.

Garp in busoshoku Haki is understandable but I was implying well rounded in all forms (the best).

Kings Haki is definetly Rayleigh

Shanks? I think you're misremembering. Shanks wanted to sell the fruit. Buggy ate one by mistake, he never wanted to eat it.

The kings Haki thing is common sense, it's growth (experience).

That is what Rayleigh was talking about

The more development in battle, the stronger the spirit.

Not the stronger you are physically, the stronger spiritually.


Otherwise Whitebeard wouldn't match Shanks

It would be super funny if roger's df was the gomu gomu no mi, which would imply why shanks had it in a treasure chest.

Ot: he had to be a beast in haki and speed, and he had an ancient weapon.
