Not really. Distant ancestors are not part of your identity. They had no influence on you. You don't need to know people of your ancestry-line except for your parents and grandparents if they are still alive. Everyone who is already dead when you are born, is irrelevant to your personality which is the only aspect of "identity" that matters.
This unjustified "pride" is one of the many cancers this world is suffering from. It insanely stupid to be proud of things you didn't have anything to do with.

If I were meeting you, I wouldn't care about your skin colour, your gender, your family. Your identity is the consciousness that sits in your brain between the ears. The only scenario where I would start to "care" about your family would be if I met them in person as individuals.

Sure, but curiosity doesn't make it less irrelevant. If you are fine with investing time in irrelevant stuff because it makes you feel better, fine. Do whatever pleases you. I just can't relate to it.
Well, of course, they don't have any affect on ourselves, it's more accurate to say an extention of our identity. For majority of human history, things like this have been important, along with things like honor, which you'd probably agree is pointless as well. But just because it's pointless to you doesn't mean it is to everyone else. You're basically being that guy who never got into sports and thinks everyone who enjoys watching it, shouldn't. Humans take pride in their differences, and our ancestry is one of those things. I can see why you dislike it though, as things like this can and do turn toxic and it's the same pride that results to most conflicts, even religious ones.

The number of people who think that X or Y are important doesn't make it "right" or "good" tho. This planet contains a very large amount of idiots and toxic people.

But just because it's pointless to you doesn't mean it is to everyone else. You're basically being that guy who never got into sports and thinks everyone who enjoys watching it, shouldn't.
No, that's not it. Differences between people are not only fine, they are welcomed and needed. By default, I have no problem with people who like stuff that I do not like. I start to have a problem with this when that specific thing turns toxic, be it something as simple as sports, tv-shows or things like pride, honor or even the "biggest" topics, like religion or politics.

So, if someone does research on ones' ancestors out of curiosity, it's fine. Personally I don't see the point but that's okay, since I'm not the center of the universe. As long as it doesn't turn into this specific sort of "pride" or "honor" that is the root of most (if not all) conflicts and problems of this world, I have no problem at all. Maybe I was too vague in my first post, I apologize in advance.

Quite a mix bag there, which one do you resemble the most in terms of looks?

You have mistaken me for a racial cancer.... :sdo: My questions are purely out of curiosity :sdo:
I'm part Slav part Ashkenazi from a biological standpoint. My family originated from Jerusalem long ago and settled in Belarus, where I was born.
You're basically the progenitor of this current civilization XDXD

Murican and muricah
Basically you're from Scotland, Greenland, Iceland around there or the REAL Americans?

My great grandfather is still alive. As for my ancestry/home language, everyone is Tamil.
Nice, You moved to England now?

I am, as far as I can trace my ancestry on both sides, an Anglo-Saxon, and my surname is a Norman name.

Frankly I never took the idea that my paternal line traced to Scandinavia just because of the Norman surname seriously - but a year ago, while I was reading about ancestral DNA testing for fun, I got myself genotyped (ancestral genotyping is pretty cheap now) - and my Y haplogroup turned out to be I1-M253.

The Y haplogroup is the genetic marker that is passed down from father to son - it's a purely paternal line of descent (and therefore relates to the paternal surname) - and I1-M253 is the Northern European marker, distinctly peaks in Scandinavia, and very rapidly declines into the Germanic world.

So it seems likely that my surname has been preserved since my Norse great-great-great-great.... grandfather found his way to England (probably in the Viking invasions).

On the other hand, a Y DNA haplogroup doesn't tell you anything about ethnic admixture, and I suspect that if I were to do an admixture test, I'd cluster with my neighbours the Scots, Welsh and Irish as opposed to the Norwegian, Danes and Swedes.

All my ancestors are Sri Lankans and belong to Sinhala ( Sanskrit meaning is 'Sinha'(lion) 'la'(blood or heart) ) people .

only ancestor i know about on my father's side is my great grandfather and from stories i heard from my father he was a strong , tall man that was fearless and from my mother's side we come from lineage who fought against Portuguese around 15th-16th century .

how great my ancestors have been what matters most is what i do and only that gonna define who i am .

and language is Sinhalese .
