What is with Naruto's quality?

I explained this a while back, but a lot of people don't seem to understand how the production process goes, so I'll try to explain it in more straightforward ways.

#1. The most major cause, is that 50-60% of all Naruto episodes are outsourced to cheaper animation studios. Reason being to cut down cost and time restraints. Without doing this, it would be impossible to keep anime like Naruto, Pokemon, One Piece, Bleach, Detective Conan, to keep going for 5-10+ years straight with no seasonal breaks. To acomplish this task there are always about 8 full different teams working in a constant rotation to pump the episodes out weekly.

Some could argue that seasonal breaks may improve the quality and eliminate fillers, but for some reason Japanese studios refuse to do this and I'm not sure what the reason is.

#2. The remainder of the episodes are done by Studio Pierrot's staff themselves. These are the episodes that clearly tend to stand out above the outsourced episodes.

Pierrot willl occasionally throw us a bone every once in a while with an especially high budget episode. However there are only about a couple dozen of these in the whole series. For example episodes like 26/35/42/82/85/123/131/135/138/143/166/167248/249/252/322/375 to name a lot of them.

They know they have the loyalty of the fanbase, so they can make it any quality they want, and people will watch and they will make money.

I always wondered why they didn't make seasons for Naruto. I guess out-sourcing is a "good" idea but AoT isn't being negatively affected by it.

Good post.

The reason for seasonal breaks is probably tied in with their highly punctual and routine filled society.

To sum up, they know fans are stupid and can be taken as granted.

This.

OT: I hope they save some money for the last few episodes [ kaguya vs team 7 & naruto vs sasuke] because if they don't i'm gonna be mad.

Well the TV ratings have fallen quite a bit since the beginning. From about 6-8% of the population down to about 3-4%. Or in another words, a loss of about 50% of the people who used to watch it on the TV network.

Some of that is probably because of so many people switching to online viewing over the years, but fillers no doubt lost a ton of people as well.

They're kind of lucky the manga has ended, or else I'm pretty sure this would have ended up in the same situation as Bleach right now. Although I still think Bleach will return when everything is done.

Thanks for the info. Also what can you tell us about Madhouse animation studio and do you know whether Yamashita is working on a episode for Gai vs Madara or not? :hmm:

They hired Yamashita as the main director of the Boruto movie, he is probably gone until the movie is finished.

But I don't know what you want me to tell you about Madhouse. In terms of Hunter x Hunter they did things almost exactly the same as Pierrot, except they put slightly more money into it.

I was wondering what if the Boruto movie production and release was changed to a later date so that the good animators are free to do the Shippuden episodes that require high quality animation e.g. Gai vs Madara, would that not be possible? :eww: I mean many people are wanting that fight out of everything that is left, to be animated with high quality similar to episode 322. You know that Pierrot already have many upset and angered fans. It would not be cool on Pierrot's part to give all the fans a huge break from canon(5 months) and to then top it all off with a cheap low quality animation given to a fight which they desire to see most. U_U

Also, the reason why I mentioned Madhouse was because I wanted to see if it was possible for them to do all Boruto animations from now on. I mean I guess it is too late for the remaining Shippuden episodes to be animated by another Studio like Madhouse so that's out of queston however if let's say Boruto manga were to be animated, then Madhouse would be a good studio to consider imo. :hmm:

PS: Pretty sure Kishi has enough money accumulated from all these years. :yeah:

Theres still a selection of good animators on Pierrot's books that could be roped in like Masayuki Kouda, Gorou Sessha, Hirofumi Suzuki, Masahiko Murata, Atsushi Wakabayashi etc.

Masahiko Murata and Masayuki Kouda were both taken off Naruto completely, they are doing another Pierrot anime called Baby Steps.

Also Atsushi wakabayashi isn't with Pierrot, he's more of a freelancer.
The anime director said there are no plans for him either, but that was like 5 months ago... hope that changes.

I'm not sure what Gorou Sessha is doing, chances are he's part of Boruto along with Hiroyuki Yamashita and Hirofumi Suzuki.

Makes me wish that they wouldn't do a Boruto movie until after Shippuden anime is done. All the excellent animators are doing movies, while all the bad-good animators are doing the anime. I'd rather see really good animated fights like Might Guy VS JJ Madara like they did Obito vs Kakashi than a movie.
