If that would be true, people wouldn't divorce so much now would they. There's indeed a time difference between the two, but love can but isn't guaranteed to be permanent. It's longer than a crush though.
A crush is something that's relatively short in time and is superficial. Pretty much 90% of all the early teenage relations are crushes. They see someone that's good looking or funny. Even though they don't know the person very will, they start liking him/her or in other words they have got a crush.
Love is something that goes way deeper than just something superficial. It's very possible that crush develops into love after a certain period of time. Most relations start with crushes.
Knowledge and experience. Also reciprocity.
Do you like them more the more you know about them? Do they feel the same way? Would you sacrifice for them? Would they for you?
You really need to be a good judge of character to tell. There are people that make their living exploiting this intricacy.

A crush is a an emotional impulse, an urge fuelled by attraction, a prolonged crush becomes a desire and in time desire becomes need which becomes love, which is more of a state of mind rather than an emotion or an impulse

a crush is like somethin u have when u r a kid u know like all the girls in naruto had for sasuke but then genuine love is a whole lot more and its very difficult to get rid of it and it takes years
