What is the best element?

Quite a few Kage level Ninja who depend on elemental Ninjutsu use Lightning, so it seems the obvious answer. Fire seems useless really, unless it's Enton. Water is decent, Wind we've seen too little of, same goes for Earth. I personally think Earth is underrated. It's great defense, and Swamp of the Underworld was awesome offense. I'd say:

1. Lightning
2. Earth/Water
3. Wind
4. Fire

i thought the same but i remember when Kakashi fought Kakuzu i recall Kakashi using raikiri on him and saying something about lightning >earth i thought it was weird to because i play pokemon

Realistically speaking, lightning can pierce through earth easily and water conducts it. So, I do not see how earth/water> Raiton

Kisame's Great Water Shark Technique says otherwise, you know, the jutsu that absorbs all ninjutsu, and gets bigger and stronger from the chakra it absorbs.

Mainly because I like how versatile it is beyond typical one-on-one fights - for sensing and hiding etc.
