What is really base mode?

We keep using that term 'base mode' when doing comparatives of one shinobi versus another, yet what gets me is that there is no real clear definition. Seriously the whole purpose of being shinobi is to progress, so in a sense you're 'base mode' is always changing until you cannot acquire anymore. Just because you learned how to do a new jutsu, taijutsu, etc.. doesn't make that acquisition out of the realm of 'base mode'.

I personally think that Naruto's 'base mode' or any other shinobi's 'base mode' is wherever there at presently. If the power they had was temporary or an outside tool that could be destroyed like a sword or an amulet, then I say yes, that shinobi's 'base mode' is without those temporal enhancements. But if those enhancements are permanent like EMS, Bijuu mode or what have you, then the 'base mode' has changed.

BM woulnt be a base mode since he cant use it all the time, like sm and bm are temporary power ups so they wouldnt be base, kind of like ms and ems, sharingan would be base for itachi since its always active but not ms

True, people don't walk around in BM, SM or having EMS activated normally, but those characteristics are permanent, they don't go away, they are acquired traits/developments and now a natural part of their base abilities. For example, just because a guy can run the 100 meter dash in 9.5 seconds, doesn't mean he's going to run at that pace permanently, but that is his natural development and his current base mode ability. Now if you put rocket shoes on him to run faster, then that's not base mode because those shoes could malfunction or just wear out.

All those developments that you mentioned above are natural developments or permanent acquistions, they just use them out of base mode. Now if there is some external factor providing a temporary power up or what have you, then yeah, that's not base mode.

base mode is simple its a ninja b4 he uses power up like sasuke without his sharingan activated is base mode and naruto without sm or bm is base mode or guy with no gates or kakashi no sharingan jman no sm choji no buttefly mode

anything that boost ur powers beyond what they really are sum ninja dont have any moves like that like sakura she is always in base mode

Sage mode is a learned ability of which only certain ninja can learn and kyuubi mode is an inherited ability of which only certain ninja can house and develop a bijuu. Those are not power-ups (imo) they are developments that arise out of the 'base mode' abilities of that particular ninja.

You clearly don't grasp the meaning of base mode.

If you have to use enhancements then it's not base.
When you don't have to activate anything, that is base mode.

Sharingan may be one exception.
