What if Sasuke and Neji fought at the Chuunin Exams?

At that time, Neji was far superior to Lee. Sasuke copied Lee's taijutsu, but he didn't have even close to the stamina you need to keep it up.

Plus his sharingan was only 2 tomoe, a byakugan is basically already developed

I think that Neji would have beaten Sasuke at that point in the series.

Sasuke's speed and chidori were two things Kakashi beat into him for the explicit purpose of defeating Gaara. Kakashi even said that it was not a jutsu to use against someone from the same village. He knew that Neji was a close range specialist, so he would have probably helped Sasuke improve his long range tactics (shuriken/kunai jutsu, katon jutsu,) while working more on sharingan dodging/countering.

Neji would expect that, but being a specialist of taijutsu, in addition to his own dojutsu, he would fight similarly to how he fought Naruto. Remember, no one knew that he could use kaiten OR 64 palms until he fought Naruto, so he would have definitely surprised Sasuke with that. Being a better close range fighter with the style that naturally opposes Lee's (and thus, Sasuke's copied style,) having the byakugan (a dojutsu that was NOT inferior to the sharingan back then,) and the Hyuuga trump techniques (kaiten for projectiles, 64 palms for dynamically attacking) I think that he would have triumphed over Sasuke.

Sasuke's curse seal is not included in my opinion, because he only pulled it out in the life-or-death fight he was in with Gaara, and otherwise, it was suppressed. It would be a good fight, but ultimately Neji would have probably won.

Neji would win in the end. Developmentally, at least at that stage, he was too far ahead. Even if Sasuke underwent special training like with Gaara, I don't think it would have been enough. Woulda been one helluva fight though

That was my answer, Sharingan is superior to Byakugan, even if the Sharingan was derived from the Byakugan that means it was evolution, the occular jutsu was improved.

Sasuke would get destroyed. Sasuke has to go the entire fight without getting hit. It was already noted the Sasuke ws weak against Lee's taijutsu. Neji isn't using chakra either, so the longer the fight goes it favors Neji more.

In the screenshot of Naruto vs Neji it was Naruto's first time using the power of the fox after the whole Haku battle, so of course it was going to be easy for Neji to evade Naruto. Naruto was using his additional chakra after all his points were sealed, which it was nothing compare to the power he unleashed when he fought Sasuke. I didn't see Neji facing Naruto at one-tails, because if that had been the case here-- it would have been Neji bouncing all over the stadium. Not disagreeing with you that Neji isn't fast, because he is better than Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto one-tails and Sasuke CS is too much for poor Neji to handle. Also, Sasuke has the disadvantage in this fight, but don't count him out so easily. I doubt Neji would have such an easy time defeating Sasuke in a 1vs1 at the Chunin Exams. Sasuke having a third tomoe would swiftly have no problems evading Neji. Sasuke will pretty much be aggravating Neji.

Neji's speed/reaction is about equal or greater then KC naruto and lee with no weights!

In the databook Nejis speed was equal to sasukes in DB1. (and db1 included everything right up part 1 naruto half), in DB2 (databook 2) he is equal to ROCK LEE!!! That includes all of naruto part 1 before shippuden is shown. That means Curse mark 1 and curse mark 2, 5 gates lee etc etc And in the recent Databook both sasuke and neji are finally tied again. And this is the fast sasuke that fought Itachi btw. (facts from kishi btw).

Now back to me proving my points.

Neji sees EVERYTHING! Sasuke does not have the skills or power to defeat or out smart neji at that point. Curse mark only allows extra chakra and power. And sasuke suffers while using it. If he used it he would of loss faster actually!

2 tomoe allows you to read movements; but if you cannot react fast enough its futile.

And i showed you scans of kyubi cloak naruto tieing with neji in speed (fact of manga), and sasuke getting destroyed (not tie, not stand a chance, not even close) in taijutsu and speed by the same naruto Kyubi cloak neji! Fact of the manga no disputing!

And the sad thing is neji didnt even show his full power during the naruto fight and only loss because

Kakashi knowing the 2 tomoe sasuke abilities (not chidori yet) said sasuke was no match. Now if we take after the training sasuke (with chidori) he could last a bit longer. But the only thing he did was gain chidori and the same speed Lee possessed that didnt work against Neji before. So what makes you think he would be fast or powerful enough to win this time?

DOnt bring up intelligence because neji is just as smart at that time (fact of manga and databook).

@Draegod: Sasuke's reaction speed was faster than Neji's due to the Sharingan. He also gained the speed needed to dodge fast attacks. That was the reason for the taijutsu training, well that and gaining the speed for chidori.

Neji defense will not lose to anything sasuke has. ANd it being in the stadium is no place for sauske to run or hide. And sasuke isnt the type to run anyway, he would try and beat him in taijutsu but would lose easily. Since neji can accurately sense every attack with in his range!

Wires and traps will never work against his eyes! If a master trap spider dude who set everything up couldnt catch neji off gaurd, what makes any one think wires would when he sees everything???

His speed was the same as lees starting speed. (which isnt enough for neji), and can reach up to lee with out weghts speed. (still isnt enough to beat neji).

His taijutsu style isnt a match for neji perfectly sensing everything and can counter accordingly!

maybe; but in order for lee to use gates he first has to land primary lotus. And that would never happen against neji!

The form Naruto used against Neji and the one he used against Sasuke are different. Look at the eyes. The changes in Naruto's body indicate how much of Kurama's chakra he is using. It is evident that Naruto used more chakra against Sasuke than Neji, which means he had more power and speed. If that isn't enough, the form used against Sasuke allowed him to heal a home in his chest. The one against Neji wasn't even able to heal his fingers when he dug through the ground.

You neglect to mention the chakra consumption that rotation entails. Sasuke isn't stupid, he would go for a straight taijutsu battle with Neji. Manipulated shuriken jutsu can force Neji to use rotation and wear him down. Also, if Sasuke hit Neji with chidori before Neji actually started rotating like Naruto did, then chidori would indeed pierce Neji.
