What if Itachi doesn't get sealed/unsummoned?

What if Kabuto gets killed like he as a villain has to but Edo Tensei doesn't get cancelled? Would Itachi have to defend Konoha forever, never sleeping or taking a break? Would that be a fitting hell for Itachi's crimes?

If he stays as he is he'll probably do what he's always done and protect the leaf from the shadows

The show would go down hill because his stay in the story-line would be pointless. If anything, Kishi would seal him just to progress or have a happy ending in "Naruto." Also, you have to remember that Edo Tensei is a rotten Jutsu which why it was made forbidden by the Second Hokage who many felt that it was a disgrace or disrespectful to the dead. Or something like that. They would have no choose but to seal Itachi at the end.

edo tensei won't be cancelled by kabuto's death that's certain.

however after kabuto dies and if itachi is still alive, a lot things can happen
he might become a hero.
he may take a wrong step and gets branded a traitor.
he may leave eveything behind and disappear.
or since he has free will now he let's the kages seal him.

I think it's funny that the Second Hokage forbade it when he created it. But yeah, I think that Itachi will be sealed after the war. I don't think he'll want to stay.
