As you read One Piece, you must have noticed the subtle change with Whitebeard's flag, going from the Nazi symbol to a "+" formed of two bones.

Anyone know the reason for this change? I have a couple of guess, but I wanted to know the real one.

"Originally in the manga, a manji was behind it instead of a cross, while the current version is originally only used in the anime in order to avoid confusion with a swastika, like the ones used for Nazi flags. The swastika symbol used by the Nazis is not to be confused with the symbol Oda chose to use, though, as the Nazi one has the arms of the cross bent at right angles while the Whitebeard one has them bent at left. However, in Shonen Jump #50, Oda commented that from Chapter 434 onwards he would have to use the cross version of the flag in the manga as well, being told to do so by the higher-ups at Shueisha."

It is exactly what you think it is. :)

Guess some people found it inappropriate or Oda decided it shouldn't look so Nazi-ish. I've only been watching the anime so far so I can't say I've noticed.

Edit- Noc got it^

Swastika's are just common symbols. If hitler used a triangle on his flag we wouldn't be banning triangles right ?

Neji even has one on his head:

It's all about the context, I don't care that WB's flag looks like that or that Neji has one on his forehead, I don't think that is offensive. In fact a swastika with the arms to the left like Neji's and whitebeard is the buddhist sign for peace. But when people use them on a red banner and start shouting that's a whole other story.

Swastika was originally a Buddhist symbol, but after the Nazis started using it, it became taboo.
You can still see this symbol on Buddha Statues and such.

Geez gimme a break, I didn't say it was offensive or anything, I simply asked why they changed it (¬_¬)

Anyway, Nocturnal answered, thanks ^^

You said it was a Nazi symbol which it isn't, I was answering that part of the question not the the part about the change because that is obvious.

And don't act so defensive I wan't even referring to you, I was giving my personal opinion.

No break for you untill you remember what you asked when you made a thread about it, and read the posts of people that are trying to give you an answer carefully.

Oh right then my bad about that part.

Seems like you are the one on the defensive right now, I was just messing with you on that other post :p

Let's drop it.
