What happened to Crystal balls?

Hey, do you guys remember?3rd hokage had a crystal ball from which he can see things.and also, that biggest, oldest sage toad has one too.
I wonder if they could use them for spying madara or kabuto or sasuke.very easy and harmless method to find out enemies without risk of being ambush.
What do you say??

it exist.we have seen it twice.
1) when naruto stole the 1st hokage scroll.(3rd used it to see naruto)
2) when naruto lecturing nagato(toad sage used it to watch naruto and praise him as destined child.
I wonder if it would be any help.....(it must be) kishi can't make excuses like it got stolen or doesn't exist.

Its called Telescope technique ... The Great Toad Sage and Hiruzen Sarutobi are the only 2 known users.(3 if you count filler Guren) So if you have that crystal ball it does not mean you can spy on someone ... you need to know that jutsu first

Yes, it can be used. But it does not seems like jutsu a lot of ninja can use.
As I said, Its unique to 2 characters (3rd non canon).
