Madara realized it after losing 4 brothers. While Hashirama realized it after losing only 1 brother. So here again Hashi is 3 steps ahead however he couldn't save his brother Itama from dying due to his father's persistance...

IM positive it was stated somewhere that he died after madara "stole" his eyes Which im pretty sure he willingly gave up for his big bro

Izuna will probably be the reason. He must have been a baby back then and he probably had the strong wish to protect him. That's when they truly became enemies.

Plus you see why he made up his silly moons eye plan. It's a crazy way to create enforced peace and end the own suffering.

maybe Izuna has something distinctive that hashirama remembers....and hashi tells madara about it and madara realizes it was izuna he was talking about

That is correct i don't recall what chapter it's on but it even show's his brother on his death bed telling Madara to take his eyes to become the leader of the clan.

I thought this was already told. Look people madara got his ems after izuna died. If you recall he had ems when he co founded konoha with hashi, so his bro couldnt be the reason. As obito said, its simple: the new village neede a hokage, and hashirama was chosen instead of him. That made him rebel because he was unwilling to act as a subordinate to hashi. Which is why he said in the fight im already at the top. For some people something like that is a big deal.
