For anime, I think it has to have been either DBZ or Trigun. Then, as I started watching more anime, it brought me to shows like Cowboy Bebop and a myriad of developing series. I used to love Dragonball to death, but you might've already guessed that.
In regards to manga, I'd have to say Hajime No Ippo. I really loved it right from the start, even though I read it on an absolute whim. It's both the longest manga I've read, and the first one that I've caught up to. After that, it was Gantz (which just so happens to be the most brutal thing I've ever read). Now, I'm reading Kuroko no Basket and Denpa Kyoushi, since I've devoured Life is Money and Bloody Junkie takes forever to update.
