[Discussion] What does it mean to "tank" an attack?

Yeah we're talking about in the context of manga/anime.

In this case it's minimal to no damage.

But you're still supposed to take the attack, if you dodge it or absorb it with a technique of some sorts its not tanking either.

Yeah that's also not tanking. IMO, tanking is no damage-ruffled clothes.

To take an attack with little to no damage. My example would be the raikage tanking Naruto's rasenshuriken.
In video games this hardly never applies since you will always take damage unless for some odd reason you're drastically over leveled.
