Does anyone else think the education system in America is shit?? I mean im trying to pick out college classes and they don't have SHIT besides english, science, history, and math. I went to ****ing middle school and high school for that bullshit. Post your opinion on America's education system, if your not in America, lemme hear about your country as well (Coming from Brazil, I can confidently say that their education system is too, a piece of shit.)

Flaming will not be tolerated.

In some aspects I do feel like our education system sucks. I feel like we focus too strongly in some aspects that won't matter much later in life but aren't giving enough options for students in middle school and high school. College education system is fine though, it's the middle school and high school I mainly see flaws with.

I personally think that the "basic classes" should not be mandatory to college students, I've wasted TWO YEARS finishing my basics in order to barely get to the degree i am pursuing. So yes the education is caca.

We'll depends on how you look at it. Odds are unless your going to try and specialize in something your gonna forget 90% of what you learn. One thing you will learn is the ability to sacrifice. College teaches you to sacrifice your time and effort to achieve those good grades so you can move forward. And when you get into the real world you will have the tools neccisary to do anything.

Education is garbage.

It's an old outdated system. there was a time when those first 2 years where there for a reason. But now they are just a road block to hinder your education and chances of getting a job. "Becoming a well rounded" person doesn't happen because you took 2 years of BS classes that you took ALL the other years of your life.

All that stuff needs to be replaced. The ONLY reason they hold so dearly onto it is because those teachers who couldn't actually pursue their careers need work. There is no reason why Job B needs to learn concepts from Job A and C. All the time you waste could have been put to bettering yourself for your profession so you can actually work!

The Only General classes colleges should have should involve world studies, Sociology and things that help you understand the people around you and other cultures around the world. History classes that teach how the middle east was actually the capital of knowledge during the dark ages would open peoples minds moreso than "America is #1" and all types of useless garbage.

But your stuck taking nonsense classes because Book companies, teachers and colleges work together using those as a source of income. Take Notice how Books in those courses cost more than most of your actual degree. Take note to how overly complicated some classes are in the hopes you have to repeat them. Take notice how you have to take test and examinations to place or end up taking extra classes costing you more money when in the end you won't use the information.

Notice how your main degree classes don't have extra examinations that make you go back if you don't pass high enough making you spend more on books that don't get used?

I agree that it is pretty poor. Other countries have far surpassed the US in terms of education and while it isn't clear now, it will be the downfall of this country.

Outcomes for graduates of all but the top universities have severely diminished while prices continue to increase. Classes focus on basic subjects and skills such as those mentioned in the original post, while eschewing the practical training needed to work, and succeed in this economy. Also, There are too many schools and spots available for industries that cannot support a large influx of new, untested, graduates (i.e., look at how many Communications, and Drama/Acting degrees are given out each year compared to the number of new job openings in those fields)

I do think it is pretty poor. For example I think Math stopped being useful in 5th grade. If it was up to me Math would have been changed after 5th grade to a ''Knowledge of the World'' class where they teach you useful things like writing your Autobiography, paying your taxes or applying for a job.

I think the education system in general is messed up in the present. Colleges, schools, everything. I cba to type everything I think out though so i'll leave it at the fact I am against the current system in general.

As for America, your education system is ridiculous. The education here in Arabia is even worse though -___- The english is weak, and if you memorize well then you'll zip through the entire curriculum. We're not properly taught how to write research papers, conclusive skills, or subjective answering. Our religion takes up a lot of time and is nothing more than a book that goes against the religion of half the country (not to mention it doesn't represent Islam at all). They don't even teach you how to properly write a paper in ARABIC for God's sake.

Right now i'm in a school with an American diploma system, which is better. We have a lot of english subjects and we learn the skills that arabic curriculum lacks.

Once you get to college it's a business, you are basically paying society so you can have a slightly better paying job when you get out into the world. Thing is unless you have a scholarship you'll be spending more than half of your career paying back your student loans. Which for years will set you on par with someone who didn't go to college.

Also now with grade schools setting the standard that "You have to go to college", it has become more common and unless you have a masters degree and up you have nothing to set you apart from another job applicant. With a higher degree the more money you make, but your student loans will also be more so it balances out to not much better.

I'm currently taking a college course in the UK and seriously, the work we're doing is of the same calibur as we had 3 years ago. It's not actually progressing and i'm not sure what i've actually learnt in the last 3 years.

Except Film Studies. Film Studies is hella rad.
