Well, in my senior english class today, we were have a discussion about Existentialism, and the belief that humans are nothing, we are just a speck of dust.

Existentialism is the term applied to the work of a number of philosophers since the 19th century who, despite large differences in their positions, generally focused on the condition of human existence, and an individual's emotions, actions, responsibilities, and thoughts, or the meaning or purpose of life

So half way through the class, my friend asks a question. She says...

"I was watching this documentary about someone, and his view is that life is just a dream. We imagine everything.. emotions, actions, people, beliefs, etc. and when you go to sleep, you dream about a dream."

At that point i looked at my buddy next to me and said....

Then the same girl said another thing...

"In the documentary, the guy then proceeds to say that when we die, we dream. A study showed that for 12 minutes after death, your brain is still active and functioning, so within those 12 minutes, you have another dream, and that is your next life. Since we who are living count the 12 minutes as 12 minutes, after you die, those 12 minutes are an eternity. a millisecond could be a year, or a decade."

And then I proceeded to say to my buddy...

MIND = F*CKED!

anyway, what are you beliefs... and no, it doesnt have to be a huge paragraph, this isnt a philosophical debate, im just curious as to what people think

this will go on forever for me..but we cant say "people are just dust" and afterlife is "just a dream and living is dreaming"...if thats that case then her words mean nothing, life is life, life is a part of existance, maybe she is dreaming but we are living...but to be honest there is no right or wrong answer..a dream is just a asset of life..so she is somewhat wrong, if life is a dream you cant have a dream of living..thats redundant..so she is wrong lol..i hope thats not all you talk about in that class cuz it would be so boring lol GL with her 0_o

It has been a scientific theory for awhile now, but has recently been somewhat proven. All matter and energy exists everywhere at the same time, and it is only when it is seen, that it becomes solid and correct in one place. Our lives, our realities are made upon our own interpretations of these matters and energies, our own measurements. We create our reality, in our heads and all around us. It is only when it is noticed, is when something becomes real, otherwise it is scattered in an infinite amount of possibilties.

With that being said, yes, in comparison to super novas, blackholes, and galactic collisions, we are less then a speck of dust, not even a blink of an eye. That bothered me for a long while, feeling so insugnificant to these cosmic happenings all around us. However I came to a realization that my reality is what surrounds me, what I experience. That though, in comparison, I am nothing to these events, but that these events are nothing to me as well. I will never see a super nova, experience a galactic collision, or stand at the event horizon of a blackhole. Those things are not part of my reality, and therefore are insugnificant to me.

Life is only a dream if you don't make it real, everything exists and nothing exists at the same time, if you don't go out and experience it.

actually, if you're talking about evolution, isn't the theory not that we came from chimpanzees but that chimpanzees and humans have a common ancestor?

also, I'm going with the whole "I think therefore I am" dealy. If you aren't aware of your reality, you might as well not exist. It's like, there could be someone on the other side of the planet with green hair eating a chicken leg, but as long as I don't know they exist, then they might as well not.

Wait, did the fact that I just mentioned that hypothetical person make them exist? Maybe they exist in another universe!?

great, now I'm thinking about string theory all over again...

there are people that say they can control what happens in their dreams so if that were the case then eventually they would be able to control their own reality, but then there are things that we can dream about that wake us up like if we were about to die in our dream, so if we were already dead but dreaming our next life then something crazy would cause us to wake up dead lol, or would it just automatically make us wake up into our next life, but how would that work, would we wake up being born or what, and some people could probably go into a matrix theory from this subject, and if we were to go into evolution then alien theories would start popping up, all i know is that i dont know

we are just tiny tiny tiny structures of matter in an uncomprehansibly big universe and nothing we can do can effect anything that is even remotely important for the big picture XD and when we die we will decay and turn to dirt, and leter the matter that built us will be a part of another living organism or even travel far away the same way this matter built other organisms in the past and has traveled from far away to be where it is now

and I like it!!!!!
