Base powers do increase, Kurama gives increased stamina feats and huge amounts of life force. Naruto's wounds were able to heal within a night and his ability to use +1000shadow clones on his first try was due to his increased body strength from Kurama's influence. Furthermore, the reason Uzumaki were his jinchuuriki was because they shared the same traits as Kyuubi and hence would have their natural abilities enhanced by his chakra.
