Just as the title asks, what did Jiraiya die for?

He went to gain information on the leader of Akatsuki. All he came up with was "The real one isn't with them". But, the Konoha ninja all figured that out on their own anyway, so, in the end, wasn't this information useless?

Wasn't Jiraiya's death totally useless to Konoha?

All of the information that they have on Pein is mainly being gained DURING Pein's assault on Konoha.

Well just to make u see the chain reaction... By J-man's death, Pa toad came to the village to give the info, and meet naruto. By seing him, Pa toad gave naruto the greatest opportunity to gain incredible power.

If J-man wasn't dead, naruto wouldn't have learn Sage mode...

Well maybe later, but naruto needed to face death in that way so he could grow up, like shikamaru.

You have a point there. All the info that konoha's shinobi have got has nothing to do with "The real one isn't there" I guess Kishi just wanted to see
But i think it will help Naruto later on. On the basis of this info he will try to find Nagato.

Jiraiya died and look what happened... Kakashi's dead, Konoha got obliterated, there's a high chance he hokage will die, and Naruto just lost he's Sage mode. Because of Jiraiya... things are getting SO MUCH BETTER xD

naruto would not be training that soon at myobozukan if jiraiya was alive...

Yea you are right but Jyraia beat one Pein's body and send it to Konoha, if he didn't do that they wouldn't knew that there are chakra receivers..... Does everybody forgot that he was the one that send the message and the body.?

Why can't he just learn that he's gotta grow up some time on his own? It didn't need the death of Jiraiya >_<

You've got a point with the Sage Mode thing, but Naruto would probly learn Sage Mode soon anyway, because the 4th did while Jiraiya was still alive.
