Uchiha clan is overrated by their fans as usual. Sure they have produced a lot of powerful ninjas like Madara and Itachi but they were never at the top of the village, there was always some clan like the senju or uzumaki or some other to keep their power in check.
And yes the Uzumaki and Senju could be considered as one clan since they had the same ancestor and were still very closely related.

The Senju and the Uchiha were equal rivals for decades, even after Hashirama and Madara were introduced. It wasn't until Hashirama began pulling ahead that the Senju ever had a definitive lead against the Uchiha, and that is when the Uchiha began defecting.

In fact, the reason not many others where mentioned could've been because the Senju were practically gone already by the time the Uchihas we know were introduced.

The fact that the Uchiha and Senju had transmigrants fighting for so long is enough to tell me that Hashirama and Tobirama weren't the only strong ones (atleast throughout history). We just don't know about them.

The Uchiha could only ever be matched by the Senju clan because they are stemmed from the opposite sides of Hagoromo's sons. It's said however that they tied long before Madara and Hashirama, which is before the first (second to Indra) Mangekyou Sharingan was seen in the history of the clan. Even though it's said the Mangekyou is rare to achieve (though it didn't seem like it), it was obviously what would make the clan the strongest there is.
