By your logic the uchiha weren't really nothing without madara. People should realize senju and uchiha were fighting long before hashi and mads were born, they just escalated things and raised the power scale.

The Uchiha and the Senju were tied for the strongest clans long before Hashirama and Madara were born, Hashirama is the only thing that tipped that scale.

But as no further exceptional Senju were born, and many more exceptional Uchiha were born, the Senju wouldn't stand a chance if Hashirama and Madara were removed from the equation.

That's all find and dandy, but this thread is specifically asking "What clan can give the. uchiha a run for there money," not, "Which clan can team up with other clans to fight another single clan in a 2 or more vs. 1 scenario."

So can the Senju alone defeat the "current" Uchiha? Not a chance. Can the Senju and any other friends do it? Probably, but that's irrelevant.

Well the manga states otherwise. Uzumaki are considered senju lineage. Hashirama married mito and most of all Ashura the ancestor of the senju/uzumaki incarnated into both sides.

Uchiha clan is overrated by their fans as usual. Sure they have produced a lot of powerful ninjas like Madara and Itachi but they were never at the top of the village, there was always some clan like the senju or uzumaki or some other to keep their power in check.
And yes the Uzumaki and Senju could be considered as one clan since they had the same ancestor and were still very closely related.
