Doing things Madara's way might keep more bad guys of the street metaphorically speaking, but it would also cause rebellion and fear, and eventually war. By trying the peaceful approach and giving everyone a chance to be and feel equal, peace is more likely. Due to human's however and their faults, both choices will never truly bring peace, but Hashirama's would come closest.

I agree, and I think it reflects upon today. We have prisoners who are willingly saying they don't give a **** about who they killed and etc.. but we declare them mentally problematic and say death penalty shouldn't be applied. However, just like Hashirama, you have to kill sometimes. (People like Charles Manson)
