What are the "Six Paths"?

Okay, I'm a bit confused here, and haven't been able to figure this one out on my own.

Now, we know that Nagato has his jutsu which allowed him to create the Six Paths of Pain.

These paths were:

• Deva Path
• Asura Path
• Human Path
• Animal Path
• Preta Path
• Naraka Path

Yet, Madara makes a comment and calls Nagato himself the "Third of the Six Paths". Is he calling him the Human path, or is he referring to something else, and if so, what?

They are the six paths of the sage of six paths is my guess. Nagato was one, if it was a uzamaki bloodline or rinnengan. Madara or uchiha is another and so is the first's dna or senju. The other 3 are unknown. Hopefully they will be revealed in the future.

Okay, yeah, that actually makes sense.

So the Uchiha, Senju, and Uzumaki are three of the paths, and we don't know the other three.

I'm guessing there is some kind of symbolism in each of those paths to something else, but I kinda get it, like maybe the Uchiha representing Asura path or something...Well, I guess I'll see in due time.
