Itachi was innocent. I am sure of it. Look at what happened when he met Naruto in the woods when they were searching for Sasuke. He smiled when Naruto said he'd protect Konoha and bring back Sasuke, and gave him a special power to do the job. That was Narutos flashback, not Madaras or Itachis, or Sasukes. This was also before Naruto learned the truth about Itachi, which is probably why he believes it before Kakashi and Yamato did.

Civil unrest should have been handled differently, Danzo's method f-ed a bunch of things up. Which is why even if he has a monster sharingan arm that he should still be killed eventually. I don't care who does it. His methods seem to reliably suck and back fire on him. The uchiha incident is about time that it backfires on him. While itachi and sasuke had a terrible time this guy is like a underground hokage...

Madara feared that Hashirama would oppress the Uchiha, and he turned to his clan for support in challenging him for leadership. Instead the Uchiha clan turned their backs on him because they believed he only wanted to challenge him out of pride and that he simply wanted more power. The Uchiha clan never intended to make a coup d'?tat and wished for peace but they was forced into that decision because of the fear they had of being opressed by Konohagakure and only acted in self defense in my opinion. Madara had warned them about the possibility of Konohagakure overthrowing them so they thought it was the truth and were sadly mislead. Madara unleashed the fox on Konoha in hopes of framing the Uchiha so that Konoha would believe they were the culprits and would eventually have to strike back at them, thus causing strife between the two. If Madara had never unleashed the fox then the Uchiha wouldn't of had to "protect" themselves from Konoha so it is Madara's fault that they were pushed into making such a move. Hiruzen wished for a peaceful negotiation with the Uchiha but Danzo and the other two elders went and behind his back and took a path of violence when it most likely could have been worked out. Danzo used this "rebellion" of the Uchiha to his advantage and used the elders, not for Konoha's well-being but for himself so that he could get his hands on the Sharingan. Overall, in my opinion the Uchiha were innocent and just caught up in the lie created by Madara.
