Everyone knows that even the best translations from Japanese to English can end up lacking. Its clear that some translations have built-in context that either can be explained weakly or not at all. Normally these statements have a note in the margins to help the reader, although other times they don't. Truth is, if the translation team is not capable of understanding built in context like that, how are they supposed to explain it to us? I feel that Kirin Rei has shown a great aptitude to explain panels like this in the past very well and I think we need her to post her own translation for this chapter.

Thing is, this chapter was extremely cryptic in more than one way. It is obvious that after being hit with Amaterasu that Madara ditched his shirt an armor because those were the only things burning at the time. Its not that he absorbed it, its that he shed the only layer that was affected by the flames. Yet Hashirama seems to think he absorbed it, but this is not logical considering the flames were still very large in the panel before this.

What I'm suggesting is that the "Did he absorb the Ninjutsu?" line could pertain to something else. Perhaps the sub context of this panel is referring to his resurrection. If Obito was casting the Rinne Tensei himself, than in a way, Madara 'absorbed' the justu itself by focusing the casting on himself.

Other things like Madara's line referring to Kabuto was very cryptic. When I first read it, I thought when Madara said, "An acquaintance of a subordinate", he was referring to an old Uchiha clan member. After reading it a second time, I realized he was referring to Obito (subordinate) and Kabuto (acquaintance).

Bottom line I'm getting at is that this chapter is too important to not have a 100% accurate translation available to us. Kirin Rei we need clarification!

Madara did indeed absorb some amatersu flames. Because there were still some left on him even after he shed his armor. Glad that you are able to get the context. To many people over think these things.

Have a great day(or night).

These questions have been bothering me too.
I personally think the answer lies within Madara's statement:

Meaning, "the man who learns to wield both the power of the uchiha and senju shall come to unlock new powers"
One of them being the absorbing one. Knowing that he still doesn't have his eyes back.
The other one is Izanagi. To what extent, we don't know yet.

Those little left over flames bother me because if in fact he could absorb it at all, why did he bother to drop his gear in the first place? I mean if he could indeed absorb it freely, why remove his armor at all? To be honest, I think that was a slight troll on Kishi's part. The small leftover flames seemed to simply go out by themselves if you ask me, even though that is not possible considering Amaterasu is supposed to burn forever.

Definitely a possibility, Madara naturally having an absorption seems a little unlikely, most likely its a result of senju DNA/ wood release.

On a side note, I understand that Madara was sucking chakra from his targets and even healing with it, but I do not think he is capable of absorbing Amaterasu.
