How were you the most qualified if you didn't have any training? You got lucky.

I knew how to run the mill(the 6 axis dual turret lathe) because the mill only has one operator per shift and the head operator in green turn has to cover the mill if that person is sick or takes vacation.

I wasn't trained to do the job, but I had as much experience on the machine as all but 4 people in the entire plant. It's easier to replace someone from green turn than the mill, so I was the best fit to be trained to be the tool and die maker.

Anyone they'd have to hire off the street would have still had to be trained on the operation of the actual machine and company practices. This isn't like running a computer where if you're trained in one you're trained in all... every plant is different, because they produce different products. Even if you produce similar products, every plant is specialized.

I'm sick of having to defend my profession to a nerd like you anyway. The bottom line is I showed up, I worked hard, I learned all I could and when a opportunity arose... I took it. If i didn't put in the effort, when the opportunity presented it'self, I would never have gotten it. Hard work and persistence matters.

Yeah to me it just seems like you're making up a story and using someone elses fortune as your own. It's not hard to lie online and you do it constantly.

Notice the part where it says "or just informally on the job"?

Machinist is a broad category.

"To become a trained tool and die maker normally requires about at least 4 years of technical instruction plus training on the job."

See I know that's bullshit because I do it for a living. They can tell me what I need all day, but at the end of the day I do it.

It's not like being a doctor where you need a degree to be qualified for the job. In the real world if they have a need they fill it with the most qualified person available. I had experience on the machine and with reading blueprints so I got the job.

Well if you say that's bullshit, then you got lucky. Pure and simple.

You just got the job without having to get formal training in an apprenticeship. And from your story, the only reason you got it was because you don't have many workers competing for the position and a retiree was able to train you before he left.

Wow, how impressive.

Anyways I don't really care anymore. Good for you I guess? I still don't believe you and you're still not a millionaire. So until you become one from "working hard" then you have no argument to make.

Well I could have let someone else go cover the mill when the mill operator left and not learned the machine.

I never once said luck had nothing to do with peoples success, but it's not always a factor. Hard work is almost invariably the single biggest contributing factor

So why the hell did you make a retort on my comment about luck when I was replying to Yubel's statement how there's no such thing as luck?

Because your narrative is that hard work doesn't equate to success, but in the vast majority of cases is the biggest factor.

When I say success, I mean becoming rich. Not just living a content live of an average household.

My point was that 62 of the wealthiest individuals have half the world's wealth. That doesn't mean they worked harder than 7 billion people.

Not only that but in most cases, not really. Do you deny that lower income jobs are easy? So someone working 2 or 3 jobs isn't working hard? That's where the luck factors in. Not everyone can obtain high paying jobs even if they're qualified.

there is no version of the world where there are enough seats at the table for everyone.

People today are raised in envy of the people who's life they believe they deserve but don't realize is super **** rare. You're just as likely to be a leper as a famous celebrity.

In the real world, hard work and good decisions goes a long way to living a comfortable life.

You're oversimplifying everything. If hard work is all you needed to succeed, then more people would succeed. But in our current state, the middle class is shrinking and it's not because people started worker less hard.

It's because people like you made the incentive to ship jobs elsewhere.

People like me? You mean people who are against outsourcing? Wow dude, way to be an idiot and just assume shit about me.

And it was the republican party that started outsourcing jobs to China in the first place.

Eh, not really.

Sure, science did (and is still doing) an awesome job and gave us a lot of goodies, like more effective agriculture, medicine and technology overall, but there is still a lot more to it than just that.

That made no sense whatsoever.

Why would you pay an american more money to do the same job an east asian would do for less? If the cost of importing is cheaper then it's a smart business model. Now you've got people like Obama wanting to compound the problem with the tpp making trade in those countries easier. In reality we need to do away with the minimum wage and increase tariffs on foreign imports to make the incentive to invest in Americans

Again...I'm against outsourcing and I'm against the TPP. So way to assume shit about me and make yourself look like an idiot.
