Lets take a quick analyzation of the group

Itachi Uchiha
• Double Spy
• Anbu Captain at 13
• MS
• Susanoo (Amaterasu)
• Slaughtered his parents for the good of his village

Kisame Hoshigaki
• Betrayed his village/Treason
• A memember of 7NSM
• Shark Fusion (w/ Samehada)

Deidara
• Terrorist (?)
• Left his village
• Can build a mansion size clay Dragon that explodes (C4)

Sasori
• Makes human made puppets (Especially his own friend)
• He himself is a puppet
• Killed the 3rd Kazekage which was the strongest Kaze
• Can control 100 puppets simultaneously

Kakuzu
• Has 5 hearts & steals others hearts
• Fought Hashirama
• Has about 4 chakra natures
• Can stitch himself back together

Hidan
• Immortal
• Can hurt you, by hurting himself
• Has a very large scyth

Zetsu
• Best Spy
• Can separate himself
• Has Hashiramas cells & Madaras will

Konan
• Oragami Paper Bombs
• Can fly
• Pretty much untouchable

Pain
• Has Rinnegan (w/ 6 paths abilities)
• Can see simultaneously with 5 other Paths
• Controls black chakra rods
• God

Tobi (Before unmasking)
• Pretty much untouchable

They were all cool until the war arc.

Oh, and you forgot Orochimaru and Sasuke (if you wanna count them).

IMO the Akatsuki made naruto shippuden, The Akatsuki arc was the best Now i think Kishi just troll'd us all, He made some of the characters sooo OP, and simply ruined NS Sad but its true :'(

I had no expectations but they were the most badass thing ever. They are what made shippuden great imo. Sadly all but kisames death was trolled

They were okay I guess, most of them had cool powers. But I never saw them as a group, they were a bunch of missing nins who where collecting jins for their boss. I wonder what kept them together? they didn't knew about the moon eye plan or any other plan.

I wouldve switched out zetsu, hidan and deidara
