Obito and Orochimaru weren't truly that good of manipulators. Unfortunately for Orochimaru, he may have intelligence but that doesn't stop his ass from being off putting with his jutsu and movements.

People seemed to buy Obito's shit, but he was extremely suspicious. I think that either 1), others believed him for plot convenience or 2), it didn't really matter to them if Obito was who he said he was.

Lol you got backwards. Sasuke manipulated orochi not the other way around. Only itachi and obito manipulated sasuke.

Sasuke let Orochimaru believe he was manipulating him. He just needed to become stronger, which Konoha couldn't have offered him. Konoha was weakening Sasuke, so he left.

Obito easily, he's been controlling the mist village for years, manipulated Nagato and other members of Akatsuki. He broke Naruto when no one else could, he fked Itachi's plans and turned Sasuke against Leaf village and baited him to go to kage summit which was a clear death trap. He led the events of the entire Narutoverse by nine tails attack and Uchiha massacre. Played them like a fiddle.
