Was Kakashi's generation really surpassed?

And for those who say Lee will surpass him, Narujesus isn't around anymore to keep him alive so if Lee uses the Eight Gate he will die. Guy will be the only ninja in the history of ninja to use the Eight Gate and live to tell the tale.

Neji became the strongest Hyuuga, although he was still young. Lee could activate 5 gates at a very young age. Shikamaru was one of the greatest intellectuals when only 13 year old. Naruto and Sasuke are stronger than the people you listed. Gaara became a Kazakage when he was still a kid. Naruto and Gaara were able to remove the differences between the villages. Obito's own strength was what he displayed as Tobi, Kakashi base and with Obito's eye (DMS was temp.), Gai is his gates since he trained for that but he dies after that. Naruto's base is Jounin and SM makes him Kage level. Sasuke's is MS which is Kage level. Sakura is her Yin seal which puts her power Kage level. Lee base is Chunin but he can go up to 6 gates. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura are 17 while Lee is like 18 and they will only get better from that point since prime is usually 35-40.
I didn't count other powers like Kurama, Itachi eyes, Madara's eyes, Juubi. I guess you can take out Obito eye from Kakashi too then. Anyways, they surpassed the last generation in many different ways but the last generation will always have something the next might not have. Sasuke shown this by needing to revive Orochimaru and stating that only Orochimaru can do certain things. Kakashi, Gai, and Obito can't beat Minato or Nagato but they still surpassed some of that generation ninjas.

Naruto and Sasuke already has Surpassed all 3 of them by a mile. Maybe Rock Lee in the future will be able to surpass Guy in the future. So the answer is yes they have surpassed them.
