In S1EP9- School of Hard Knocks near the end Pikachu fought Giselle's Cubone

Ash thought that Cubone using the bone it carries in the fight was unfair, even though it is a part of Cubone, that's like complaining about Pikachu using lightning in its attacks. Then Pikachu runs up to Cubone and spins the skull on its head to blind it. This might seen alright, but remember that that is literally the skull of Cubone's dead mother! Ash thought it was completely fair to take advantage of Cubone's emotions towards its deceased mother to win the fight. After hurting the Cubone and playing around with its dead mother's skull it made the Cubone cry. All Ash and Pikachu did while Cubone was crying was cheer at their victory and didn't show any sympathy towards it. So were they being dicks in that fight or not?
