Chapter 3:
My feet hit the pavement making as little sound as possible, as I walked slowly down the left side street behind the school. The week had been ruined as soon as Damin Macnarki had mentioned his name, why couldn’t he have kept it to himself? Now all I hear as I walk though the halls is, ‘oh Damin this,’ or ‘Mr. Macnarki that,’ it’s making me sick, and If I hear his name one more time I am going to scream. I know it sounds a bit dramatic and all but I would be fine with it, if it wasn’t for Rose and Sarah. They have non-stopped talking about the dang guy. If Rose wasn’t going on about how evil he is and not to go near him because he is bad, then it would be Sarah telling Rose off for saying such a thing about the perfect teacher. It was like a war over some twenty-year-old guy, who is a teacher for crying out loud, who bloody cares, what the guy does or is. All I can say is I can’t wait till he goes away and disappears from our little town forever.
But the sad thing about my little dream is it will never come true, because he staying on the staff till the end of term, and just if the school is happy with him and his workings, their going to hire him. What a complete joke, I’m going to hear about this guy for another two years; my life is now officially in hell.
The crashing of thunder made jump as I ran for the closet shelter I could find, which is a big old oak tree, that has deep green leaves and a patch of green grass at the bottom of it’s trunk. I sat down gently, pulling my knees to my chest and leaning against the tree.
It was just my luck that Cam still was having a bad week, he hadn’t talked to me much at all, other then a good morning. He kept his distance and he didn’t smile, he didn’t even walk me home all week and in the mornings he would tell me to go on a head, because he would catch up, but he never did. Something was defiantly up, with him and Miki and they still will not say a word to about what’s going on.
The sounds hit again, making me squeal as the rain started to poor, I watched the little drops come down, twinkling like little diamonds. I wish Cam were here, no I wish anyone were here, just so I wasn’t alone in this storm. I knew I had to get back though even though I’m scared, a tear ran down my face as I got up again.
I took a deep breath before I ran, I ran toward home ignoring the monstrous sounds and the lighting flashes, I just had to get somewhere safe. My clothes clung to me, the rain hit my skin my hair stuck to my face, and I just wiped it and kept moving.
I slipped past the gate and the white fence to my house, as the thunder crashed again I jumped and ran to the door. My heart pounding in my chest, my face streaked from my tears and myself soaked from the storm. Slipping my hand into my pocket I pulled out the key then opened the door, swinging it wide as I could as I rushed in.
The warmth of the house only made my heart skip a beat, it just felt so good to be out of that awful weather. I hugged my sides as another tear ran down my face, leaving a small warm trail behind on my cold skin.
The soft murmuring of voices trailed from the kitchen as I took a step closer I could hear the voices growing louder, the worry they held scared me. It was like a pulling toward the ground feeling, that if I entered the room it would just make things worse, that if I took another step it would ruin it all, but I half to know what’s happening between them, I just half too.
I moved softly toward the kitchen door, taking small light steps and with every inch closer I could understand them better. The voices echoed into me like the sound of the thundering rain. I took my last step, the pressed my ear against the door softly, listening to the conversation.
“…. We can’t leave her in the dark any longer Miki.” A males voice echoed in complete sorrow as something shifted in the room.
“ Don’t you think I know that Cam, she’s like a daughter that I never could have,” Miki paused before sighing and continuing. “ I just don’t want to hurt her….”
“You’re hurting her more by not saying anything,” Cam yelled, making me slightly uncomfortable with the situation. I wasn’t sure whom they are talking about, but I have this gut feeling, it’s me.
“But…” “No buts Miki….” Cam growled cutting off Miki’s voice.
That horrid sound hit again, forcing me to scream and fall backward on to my back, as tears filled my eyes again, but this time not just because of the storm, but also because of what was going on in that room. The argument between my brother and my mum, an argument that I couldn’t even imagine happening even if I tried, but there it was in plain words.
The kitchen door opened as Cam stepped out his face was grave and his brown eyes dark; he looked down to see me, squalled on the floor. His face softened, as he knelt down next to me, wiping away a tear that had fallen. He pulled he pulled me into his arms, cradling me like I was still a small child.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered brushing a small piece of hair from my face. “I’m sorry, I didn’t come… you must have been scared, I’m sorry, don’t worry anymore Thea… It’s alright now.”
“Cam…” I muttered into his chest, as he lifted me up off the ground and begin to walk up the stairs.
“Don’t talk, it’s fine now… we will watch the new anime I got yesterday and forget about this storm aright?” I couldn’t bring myself to ask him, to make him explain to me what was going on. So I just nodded softly and let him carry me up to my room. This was all a mess and I still have no idea what was going on, all I know right now is that I’m some how in the middle of it with out even trying.
Cam placed me gently on the bed, his eyes filled with sorrow as he turned toward my door, he called back something like I’ll only be a sec, but I couldn’t quite understand and he disappeared to fast for me to ask him.
My room is dark; a thick curtain covers the window so I couldn’t see the storm outside, my bed lays in the middle up against my back wall, a TV is at the other end off the room so you could see it while laying down in bed. Next to me are one of my bedside tables and a small stack of anime I stole from Cams messy room the other night. He always seems to get the best anime, and he won’t even tell me who gives it to him, he just tells me to stop taking it and also to stop going into his room. He is so protective of his stuff, it’s not like I’m going to wreak it or anything.
Cam re-entered my room holding a DVD cover in his left hand and in his right a bag of popcorn. He smiled softly handing me the popcorn before moving to my TV, he placed the film on then moved himself over to the bed and sat next to me, our backs against the wall as we watched the film.
As I watched I couldn’t make out what was going on, it was a confusing show, all the colours and dancing around. Well I guess it was nice of cam to offer anime, it wasn’t everyday he did that, in fact I can’t remember the last time he did.
I yawned softly closing my eyes before leaning my head against cam. I felt him look down on me, his hair brushing against my face.
“Someone’s tired,” he muttered.
“No not at all,” I opened my eyes to look at him before yawning again. he just laughed at me and scuffed my hair.
“What ever you…."
and thats the end of chapter 3!!!!!!!
