Want the word from a true IT man? Here's my opinion.

Windows Vista is probably, next to ME, one of the most awful operating systems ever. Vista has different features and works better with memory and such, however, due to the large amount of unnecessary features and sluggish programming, it is a requirement for it to work so well. If it were not, it would never run fluent in the first place. Therefore, heavy applications don't run so well on Windows Vista, so I wouldn't recommend compiling, rendering, etcetera.

Windows Vista was once known as Longhorn, the 'gamer' OS, however, due to some internal conflicts or agreements (either of the two, I wouldn't know since I don't work with Microsoft), the second team of developers started finishing the source code in order to halt the long wait, since XP was a product released in 2001 and Microsoft fell silent for some years. Since everything was pushed like this, it was programmed pretty sluggishly, and was presented as Vista.

Windows Seven is the actual Longhorn we've been waiting for, the gamer OS that should be safe, fast and versatile. So far, that is correct, however, we can't make any assumptions of how the end product would be since there's only release candidates available so far.

To make a long story short, bear with XP a little longer, Vista isn't much of an improvement. When Seven releases with a service pack (because, as we all know, none of the operating systems Microsoft made performed well without it's first service pack) then you should consider making the switch. The performance is very much comparable to XP, it's safer, has DirectX 10 integrated and has good virtualisation compatibility with Intel (so I heard).

OK then why are so many members using it
Why do so many people believe in god? Why do so many people prefer KFC as fastfood even though it's under the standards? Why do so many people buy Dell or Compaq? etc etc. Generalization is never a factor to rely on, your decisions should be based on your own preferences. After all, you'll be the one using it every day, and not all those other people.

I have to agree with Chavez, Vista had potential but its a broken OS. The reason why so many people are running the OS is because it comes preloaded on every computer except for some netbooks and the apple products.

To run Vista properly, I'd suggest upwards of 4 gigs of ram, because I initially had 2 on my desktop and it ran like crap.

Window's 7 is what Vista should have been and so much more. Its got the looks of Vista, which Vista look great when it ran, but the reliability and ease of use of XP. Plus there are new feature like a background that changed automatically at a user-set interval. Plus other features that are kinda hard to describe. I highly suggest getting the RC (Release Candidate) you should. I've been running it since it was released and I am totally pleased with what Microsoft is finally putting out.

I'd vouch for the Windows 7 RC. Got the 64-bit installed on my drive and it works like a charm. It's obviously more minimalistic than Vista and you don't need a powerhouse to run it, just make sure you get the 32-bit edition if you haven't got a compatible processor or a minimum of 4gb ram.

Though I would have agreed with you on most of these, the problem with obtaining the release candidate is that it will expire I think the 20 of August, or somewhere in Sept this year, there after it will so to say be useless, reseting itself after intervals of 20 minutes. SO do your self a favor and refrain form upgrading even if your tempted.

of u installed vista on ur computer u will see a big diff in da speed of ur games ( u will get delay lagg spikes glitches etc) due to the lack of ram (2gb) and at the end u will have 2 lower the graphics to be able to play the games smoothly or u will have to upgrade ur pc ) to be more accurate my system currently is using 1.3gb of ram at this exact second and the only thing i am using right now is google chrome (ps: im using vista)
but on my other computer which have xp installed on it , it only use 300mb of ram when google chrome is on
TO conclude , if u want to install vista , u will have to increase ur ram by 1gb at least and u will also have 2 upgrade ur processor to core 2 duel or quad or i7
so if i were u , ill w8 for windows 7 or ill just keep using xp
ps: belgates ( the owner of microsoft) admits that windows vista was the worst windows ever cr8ed

There's already a patch floating around on the net that will disable the expiration timer and reset interval.

If the board is still like open and stuff, I too has a queshyen about Vista.

My CPU which was originally meant for Vista's system was ripped off cheaper than usual with a XP instead. A year later, it f*cking fried on me. So, I had it repaired and Vista installed as well in XP's place. So far, there have been no problems. Guy was a good vendor too. Didn't bargain. Sister did him twice. Everybody laughed.

But, I can't seem to be able to play (or install) online games such as Dragonica and Sword of the World. The graphic cards were working fine when they were on XP. Or did I get ripped off again by my so-called future brother-in-law for a fake Vista system?

Yeah. From where I live, nothing has a possibility to be authentic anymore. :\

Did you reinstall your drivers for the graphic's cards?

Games seem to run a little bit smoother on Vista when lets say your alt-tabbing out. Now if I had my choice of picking XP or Vista for games, Well I would have go with Vista. Reason: Because most of the games coming out now, or soon to be coming out with require the OP to be Vista.
