As Melanie is squeezing her eyes trying to decipher where her student might be; Waindetsu bursts out a meter behind her, splashing all over her and phasing trough her; instantly solidifying infront of her; taking on an "idiot pose" lifting 2 fingers towards his sensei. Right heeere sensei!
As Melanie-chan is looking at him with a look that is just seen at goats when they are looking at a rainbow; he composes himself, trying to maintain a serious outlook towards the whole training procedure that's infront.
Sensei; I want you to teach me the illusionary arts of Genjutsu, as it will compliment my fighting style in so many ways. Well when it comes to Genjutsu; literally in that many ways I can imagine.

Illusionary Arts or how more commonly we are going to refer as Genjutsu are techniques used to create illusions in the opponent's mind. They are good to confuse or slow down the opponent or even kill the opponent in he fails to get out of genjutsu for example; killing the opponent while he's still trapped in it.
While one can easily break out of a simple Genjutsu without any physical injury or mental stress some illusionary techs can cause considerable pain to divert your attention towards the pain like breaking a bone. Some Genjutsu are so powerful that they simply knock the opponent out.
There are several types of Illusionary Art types;
KG/Elemental Gen;
Genjutsu that requires the user to possess a special KG/Element like Sharingan (a KG specific to Uchiha clan) or Sound. KG illusions are usually stronger and more effective than the usuall Genjutsu. It is relatively difficult to get out of such KG based Genjutsus.
Uchiha Clan was feared for their Sharingan's powerful Genjutsu abilities.
Normal Gen;
does not require the user to have a special KG or Advanced Element. Any shinobi with decent chakra control and precise working knowledge of genjutsu can excel in normal techs of gen.
An example of how illusionary arts work;
The user has to perform a specific set of hand seals to activate the genjutsu. When one uses a genjutsu technique he is actually messing with the opponent's chakra flow in order to show his opponents the illusions. The user uses his own chakra to disrupt the opponent's chakra flow.
Some Genjutsus like Sharingan Genjutsu requires a medium, like direct eye contact to activate.
An example of how does one escape from a genjutsu;
Logically, one can detect they are in a genjutsu by using their logic. For example if a person finds himself surrounded by thousands of weapons like flying swords, kunais, spears all coming towards him to pierce him he can look at the ground to check whether they have a shadow, if the weapons don't have a shadow then its a Genjutsu as real objects cast shadows on the ground. Or by using other senses, sometimes when you are seeing an illusion, you can use your sense of smell,hearing,touch etc. to detect its not real.
Causing physical injury;
A person can get out of the illusion by causing himself physical injury. Depending on how low level or how powerful the Genjutsu is one can get out of it as easily as by biting their lips to as painfully as by breaking their bones.
Surge in chakra;
A person on detection of being in Genjutsu can focus on their chakra and surge their chakra to get rid of the foreign chakra out of their system.
External help;
One can be freed by their allies, by their allies hitting them out of the Genjutsu.
Escaping an illusion trough special abillities;
Some ninja have special abilities like Doujutsu users who can see their chakra flow and easily find out its disturbed and sensory type shinobis, who can sense a disturbance in their chakra flow.

Lets skip the types of genjutsu like sharingan and stuff for later discussions. I have enough of what i need to continue on though, decent job.
Just to add some points i think you failed to mention.
Genjutsu itself is unique, atleast to me as there are many different types other than the sharingan one. The special ability ones like the sharingan genjutsu, you failed to explain why it is hard to get out of it, or what it exactly does. However we wlll go into it another time.
This information is not from something official. Non official as it's mostly classified as what I think they are. There are binding ones but quick genjutsu that helps you create an opening for a attack. Basically a stall on the opponent temperarily. There are also the ones that bind completely or atleast try to. There are the slow developing ones that are more powerful but again the down fall is that it is slow developing ones. Even in some customs there are dormant versions of genjutsu that if X variable is triggered than Y happens to that person.
There are many and some people came up with a bunch of cool ideas. However many are not good or is not used in a way that it should be used. Some make custom genjutsu just because they want a genjutsu. However there is one main point of genjutsu that it serves it's purpose. In our RP genjutsu is a supplementary jutsu and not many will kill you if you don't get out of it. So what is the purpose? it's not to have cool visual genjutsu just for the cool effects. Wht it is is that you are supposed to use genjutsu to create an opening of your opponent to suit the best style of fighter that you are.
For example, if you are a speedy CQC fighter. You want a quick and easy opening so you can get close. If both parties start off in mid range and all you have is Taijutsu or Kenjutsu, or you specialize in it, you can use a genjutsu to create an opening to get near the opponent for this to happen. If not it would take more turns to get to short range for this to happen. How do you do this? Easy, by using a genjutsu that binds an opponent quickly with minimal triggers [I'll get to triggers in a minute] you can move freely until that person gets out of the genjutsu. This is even true for byakugan and sharingan users. You can place them in genjutsu and just because they have it doesn't mean they are immune to it. Their KG only helps them easily to identify whats going on, but it's never prevents an oppnent to not get caught in it.
Triggers are also what is needed to place someone under a genjutsu, this doesn't always have to be through handseals but it's the most common way. Long as you have a trigger to pull off a genjutsu [and that makes sense] it will work. This can be point a finger, singing, and or some type of movement, but you get the idea.

Actually you made it quite clear for now. I would use Genjutsu mostly in comb with tai/ken and for distraction, or to quickly bind the opponent delivering the final blow afterwards. As you said, awesome for usage as supplementary spice to the stew. I will anyway lean more onto Nin/Tai. U practically have put the words in my mouth now lol and it would be pointless for me to write anything more about that lol

Alright before we actually start to learn genjutsu, lets talk about breaking it first. It's a technique from C-S rank and it's in the jutsu section but i want to discuss this first as it's a whole different category.

So when one senses he is placed under an illusion, or by smell or anything else sensible; but I believe those 2 viable ways you're talking about are self inflicted wound to snap out of it (a cut, needle to the tumb, or biting lower lip) and the other is the technique youre talking about (genjutsu Kai)
No on the sensing, no on the smell and no on the anything sensible.
Lets back up a bit, just to clearify, a genjutsu to break from, you'll need a chakra surge from self or someone else [this is the part thats not really applicable in our rp [sometimes it is but most of the time no] ]. So what is a surge of chakra? Well Kai is one of them and best way to do it if you don't have anything else. Things like Nagashi or CM is the same way, so these are all one category. The other that you mentioned is pain. However we will go into pain shortly but not on this post.
So those are the ways and let me know if you have a question. Now the first part you need to know on breaking genjutsu, is to know that you are under a genjutsu. Sense's don't work because there are a lot of genjutsu's that hinder sense's, sight, smell etc ... So how do you know?
No, when you mold chakra for a jutsu or whatever, it won't hinder you completely. It really depends on the genjutsu that you are under. Think of it this way, if you play an MMO [i don't know if you play an MMO, im hoping that you do] there are times when you will be restricted to do something that you normally would be able to do. That doesn't really hinder something else persay.
For example if you want to throw a fireball at me but you are in a genjutsu where all your jutsu's turn into flying birds, doesn't mean that the fireball doesn't happen. The fireball DOES happen but what you see is a flock of birds instead of the fireball. Get it?

What would my initial thought be? That my opponent used a doton technique under my feet; I would try to render it useless by raising my raiton chakra; when it would fail, I would realize I'm under an illusion, thereafter breaking it with one of the ways.
Here's a normal answer to the initial question;
* Screwing up the balance between spiritual and psyhical energies in your chakra by disturbing your physical energy. And we do this by producing pain; since pain comes from it makes one's psyhical energy to fluctuate. This disturbance fluctuation makes one's chakra flow to experience a spike, which is a disturbance that dispells other disturbances present in ones chakra system.
* Screwing up the balance between physical and spiritual energies in your chakra by disturbing your spiritual energy.We do this with sheer will power by forcefully creating a surge of chakra in our body by spiking up our spiritual energy. It is commonly done in 2 ways: first one is a technique named Kai and through other strong elemental techniques, like chidori nagashi that produce a high enough surge of chakra through our bodies
* By altering our chakra flow through the introduction of foreign chakra. Ok, there are two ways to detect I'm under genjutsu: either figure out its an illusion or notice the fluctuation in my chakra flow. Both are farfetched since the first option requires one to analyse the illusion in depth, which could be possible to detect with lower ranked genjutsu, but high ranked detailed ones are really hard to detect since they're insanely detailed. The other way is to be a sensor or a doujutsu user, though doujutsu users can't detect a+ ranked genjutsus since the genjutsu takes over their eyesight aswell.
Since I'm neither a sensor nor a doujutsu user, I would say it depends on the situation when it's casted, genjutsu type and rank.

It is essential to know what the genjutsu does. Really though you kind of have to look at the perspective of both an actual human being reading a text and make sense of it while pretending the things that are actually happening with your bio / character.
You have to look it at from both sides. While doing that you must also look for key words in the jutsu, that kind of lets you know that it's a genjutsu. You use those key words to identifying it without meta gaming during a battle. So what are these key words? The key words in a jutsu basically tells you the flaw of the jutsu itself. Every genjutsu has one, some are more subtle than the other and you might have to read the sentence or the jutsu as a segment. You essentially going to have to break the jutsu down and figure out what it is actually doing and find where in the description tells you that there is a flaw. Some are not going to be flaws but a timing based where they might have to do something before the illusion takes place. You are really just cutting them off but you also have to make sure you don't break any time frame of sorts. There are some jutsu's that are dormant, and only activates when you actually trigger it to happen. In either case you'll have to let the genjutsu happen in some shape or form in order to know it's a genjutsu. Without it you won't know.
It is imparative you deduct a jutsu as a genjutsu correctly, I mentioned key words but if you screw it up then well.... you get screwed. So it's not that hard but practice makes perfect. With that said lets take a look at the first tecchnique. In each jutsu that I post you will deduct that it's a genjutsu. Tell me what the key words you think they are and why.
