Red shield pops up on my iMac saying I have a virus, and asks me to pay for an antivirus program, what do I? It's scary because I've NEVER had a virus on this computer! HELP

How do you get rid of it? It really is loading porn, fake conversations, AAAAAHHH!!!!!

Well, when most people get viruses, they tend to use an "antivirus" program to remove said virus. I understand how such logic could elude you though, seeing as you buy over priced hardware because some contempt looking drone insists it's "superior" and cannot be infected by malware.

Try looking in a "Mac" community.

Hey, this was a fluke. As I said, macs hardly EVER get viruses, unlike PC's (personal communists :) ) that get them all the time!

lol looks like you got your self a trojan xd

it's fake scanning software, you don't really have any where near the amount of viruses that it may claim

While there are no viruses for Mac OS in the wild, there are trojans - malware that masquerades as some useful software and tricks you into granting permission for it to install. Once you have given permission to OSX for a program to install or run, all security bets are off.

If your Google serches are being hijacked to pages at cool-book, this is a trojan called DNSChanger. The malware installed when you downloaded something from the web, sometimes masquerading as a video codec or other useful software.

DNSChanger removal tool

Clam (open source antivirus)
Mac

In terms of cleaning up your machine, OSX does much of that for you with daily, weekly and monthly automatic maintenance that runs overnight.

You can use a program called Onyx to clean up caches, and to trigger the maintenance scripts.

One thing you can do is to go to Disk Utility and run a "Repair Permissions"

Then, you can boot from your OSX DVD, and launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu, and do a "Repair Disk" which will correct errors in your hard drive catalogs and files.

In order to speed up booting and performance in general, reduce the number of things that automatically start, or that run in the background. Reduce the number of Dashboard widgets and browser plug ins that you have loaded.

Macs are so much easier, and faster. One prick decided to make one of the 0.01% of viruses that work on Macs.

Actually Ubuntu/linux is the fastest when it comes to OS
not too mention it's free.

there aren't any viruses for macs just malware
but if a mac did have a virus then that is something to be afraid of.
a virus can destroy the data on your computer and can cause loads of problems.

i'm afraid that's wrong.
that's like saying that you get a virus just by going to google on a pc.
the people who get viruses on pc's are idiots who download bad torrents or go to malware infested porn sites.
a fluke you say?
mac os 10 had so many flukes it wasn't funny.
no one computer is safe if people know how to code viruses correctly.
yes, there are more viruses coded for pc's but you won't get those if you go onto trusted sites.

get off your high horse.

If you can, disconnect the internet. that should stop it from opening porn on your computer. If it's asking you buy a specific product, then you probably have a hijacker. I got one of these on my PC one day. a last resort could be a system retore and restore your system back to a time before the "virus" took over.

not always the case. I dont do either and I picked up a hijacker while I was looking up reviews for a computer game.

You only get a virus on a PC if you don't know how to use it, if you get a virus on a PC you're an idiot.

If you get a virus on a mac, well.... that's failure beyond belief

Also, macs are nowhere near as good as a PC:
