With a thunderous crash, the weapon landed. It plunged deep, and long cracks snaked their way from the scar that was etched into the earth, as a cloud of unsettled dust, emerged and suspended just above the impact. In an instant, something leaped away from the haze, landing a short distance elsewhere; it was the Kazekage, who seemed to have evaded the gargantuan weapon.
Bunta's yellow eyes quickly found the man, the toad frowned and grunted in displeasure. The Toad Boss Gamabunta was famously belligerent, unwilling to let his prey escape under any circumstance. Quickly, the amphibian inhaled deeply, drawing in large volumes of air, before spewing a large torrent of oil.
The black jet of sludge sped at the Kazekage, the size of the attack leaving no room for evasion, and its speed preventing the creation of any golden defenses. It swept the man away, carrying him a great distance before throwing him onto the grassy plains with a loud splat. “I got him!” Gamabunta bellowed.
The Kazekage groaned, it wasn't exactly a gentle landing as he was spattered by the oily deluge. Pain surged through every inch of his body, he was thoroughly soaked in the sticky viscous liquid, and he grimaced in disgust, mingled with agony. He tried to rise to his feet but was unable to, only now realizing that the oil did more than begrime its target; it also immobilized them. The Kazekage cursed under his breath.
Minato stood still, atop his amphibian comrade, his hair dancing under the spell of a light breeze. He eyed the Magnet Style ninja who laid motionless, nearly fully immersed in a pool of sludge, and the Yellow Flash smiled wryly.
“I'll finish him now!” announced Gamabunta, as the toad called upon its broad weapon, directing towards the Kazekage. The edge of the short sword pierced through the air, as it shot towards its mark, only to be deflected by a powerful gale. The wind erupted from nowhere in an instant, and batted the toad's arm away, while also leaving several lacerations on its skin, carved by unseen blades. Pale yellow eyes widened in shock. “What--”
The grass swayed and swooned as several shinobi zipped through it, with alarming quickness. Their footsteps made no sound, and the moonlight only revealed fleeting glimpses of them, as they sped in every direction. Gamabunta's face only registered confusion, while Minato looked rather annoyed. “Seven Suna Wind Type ninja, who employ their techniques through large fans. Be alert.” the blonde cautioned his amphibian comrade, his words brisk.
Minato eyes seemed to be able to follow the swift leaps and strides of the new enemies, whereas Gamabunta only saw dots, moving in zigzags, across the plains. The toad tensed as Minato leapt of it.
He swished through the air, moving in a parabola, towards one of the new enemies. The foe in question was blessed with a bulky stature, which made the weight of his broad fan inconsequential, as he swung it at the Yellow Flash, sending a powerful squall towards the blonde.
Minato had already completed the seals sequence for his Space Time Barrier, and the marking of his Flying Thunder God technique hung between his fingers, ready to intercept the attack. The violent wind was conjured and directed towards the blonde, only to be banished by Minato's barrier, rendering the attack null.
A kunai travelled from Minato's hand towards the burly enemy, but was sent off mark by the Suna shinobi's fan. Though the weapon was deflected, it achieved close proximity with the enemy for a split second. This was enough for Minato to appear behind his opponent, in an instant. Death was messy but quick; a kunai to the neck sent blood spurting in every direction, and the corpse landed with a crash.
Another squall was called forth by one of the remaining enemies, a man with bronze hair, and directed towards Minato. The body of the dead Suna shinobi nearly stood on two feet, as the blonde lifted it, using it as a human shield to cushion the blow of the incoming gale. The corpse was slashed to ribbons by the wind technique before being discarded by Minato, it was flung towards the Suna shinobi who had tried to attack the Yellow Flash.
Auburn hair played in the wind, as the enemy spun to the side, evading the incoming remains of the dead Suna shinobi. A fatal mistake, as the corpse was already marked by the Yellow Flash. The shortest moment of adjacency between the dead body and the living Suna ninja, as the corpse was dodged, provided Minato with a deadly opening.
Bright yellow light flashed behind the brown-haired man, announcing his imminent demise. The Suna shinobi rasped and groaned, as he drew his last breath. He tipped over and fell with a loud thud, allowing the kunai Minato had embedded in his back, to come into view. The weapon glimmered auspiciously under the moonlight, as it remained rooted in the corpse.
Minato stood ominously over the lifeless man, the second to die at the hands of the Yellow Flash on that moonlit night. “It would do you well to stand down.” said the Yellow Flash imperiously, both hands bearing three-pronged kunais, keeping a loose grip on their hilts. He was bordered on all sides by four Suna ninja, the fifth one was busy trying to wrench the Kazekage from the unyielding grip of Gambunta's oil.
Bunta watched in silence, the toad had made itself comfortable on the lush green, and sheathed its blade. Its left arm was running smooth massive fingers over the scars on its right, the wounds spilling small bits of crimson, while smoke trailed skywards from the pipe on its mouth. He had received said injuries when his sword strike at the Kazekage was deflected by the sharpened gust of wind, produced by any number of the Suna shinobi.
Minato didn't seem to need any help with neutralizing the new enemies. However, the toad sent a few wary glances at the Kazekage, who was well on his way to escaping the oil, due to the aid of one of his subordinates, the only female on the battlefield.
The woman aiding the Kazekage, was combining low level wind techniques with water techniques, to counter the effects of the viscous sludge. Result were slow but very much real; a right hand was liberated, and it already began to call upon small amounts of gold, to wrench the rest of the Kazekage from the sticky pool.
Three more shinobi had fallen against the Yellow Flash, the blonde slaughtering the trio in a matter of seconds. Only two remained, standing on trembling feet. One of them female who was aiding the Kazekage with the oil. The other, a man with pale orange hair, continued to swing powerful gusts of wind at Minato. The blonde either evaded or shielded with his Space Time Barrier, with remarkable ease.
The Suna shinobi who battled Minato, was wary of each centimeter that stood between himself and the blonde. For every inch Minato covered between them, he shifted great distances backwards. He also made absolutely sure that none of the blonde's odd weapons came within a five-meter radius of where he stood. This seemed to prolong his life, but his death still seemed inevitable. The unpleasant scent of blood that filled the air, coming from the bodies of dead Suna ninja, was foreboding.
He swung his fan, swished and zipped around while Minato evaded and deflected with his invisible barrier, until one of the blonde's marked kunai had slipped dangerously close to the Suna shinobi. His death warrant was as good as signed: A yellow flash, the sound of tearing flesh, a strained gasp, and he was dead at Minato's feet. It all happened in an instant, and Minato turned to face the Kazekage, who by now, had broken free from the oil.
Gamabunta sensed that its services might be needed right about then. Heaving its large blade in one oversized arm, a long pipe spewing smoke on its mouth, the toad shifted yellow eyes to the Kazekage as well.
“Ah, Kazekage, so nice of you to join us.” remarked Minato, blood dripping dismally from a kunai in his right hand. He flung the weapon at the Magnet Style shinobi, who deflected it with a large wave of Gold Dust. Minato appeared beside the kunai, at the moment when it clanked against the glittering defense and flew off course. A Rasengan was rammed into the gold, shattering it in an instant, and the blonde sped at the Kazekage.
The female who had freed the Kazekage, immediately shoved herself between the blonde and the Magnet Style ninja. A kunai shot mercilessly, towards her neck, Minato was a mere second from ending her life, however, they eyes met. The blonde realized that her orbs were of the same shade as Kushina's, glowing with bright, and he hesitated, for the briefest moment.
It was enough.
The Kazekage sent a torrent of Gold Dust at Minato, batting the blonde away with great force. A loud thud echoed, as the blonde landed, in a heap, on the grass-coated earth. More Gold Dust lunged towards the blonde, who was still off his feet, lying flat on his face. A fleeting glance alerted Minato to the incoming attack, and his eyes widened in shock. The gold was quick, even Minato would not be able to get away in time, with his feet anyway.
A yellow flash of light was all that was left behind, when Minato teleported away from the path of the assault. The blonde landed, out of thin air, on Bunta's head, looking furious. The Kazekage, on the other hand, looked smug, utterly pleased with managing to get a small hit on the one regarded as the fastest ninja. The edges of his mouth turned upwards, towards his ringed-eyes, curving his lips into a smile.
“Minato, what are you doing?!” complained Bunta, cracked voice echoing loudly. “You're not the one I expect to hesitate cuz of a woman!” the toad reprimanded. Minato smiled nervously.
“I guess I learnt a bit too much from Jiraiya-sensei.” said the Yellow Flash, his tone light, the words brimming with mirth.
The earth rumbled and shook ominously. as large volumes of Gold Dust erupted before the Kazekage. The attack resembled a tidal wave, as it hurried towards Minato and Gamabunta. The Toad Boss grimaced and Minato's face looked blank. “Some oil, Bunta.” said the Yellow Flash, as he scrambled through his weapons pouch, before finally obtained a regular kunai, tagged with a paper explosive.
Bunta obliged, sending a large torrent of oil at the attack. The sludge had little success in keeping the Gold Dust at bay, until Minato fired his paper-lined kunai into the fray. A violent explosion occurred instantly, sending gold in every direction, glittering dust landing here or there, pitch black smoke from the blast ascending skywards, the smog obscuring both Minato's and Bunta's field of vision.
By the time the haze faded away, Minato realized what had happened, and cursed under his breath: the Kazekage and his female subordinate had fled the battlefield. “Damn.” said the blonde grimly.
“You let them get away!” blustered Gamabunta, as the toad stowed its massive blade, plunging the sword into its sheath. Minato was perched on Gamabunta's head, so he couldn't see the face of the large Summoning, but he could tell a deep scowl was engraved into its amphibian features.
“Sorry, Bunta. Perhaps it was destiny; maybe the Kazekage's meant to do great things for the world of Shinobi.” responded Minato with a apologetic smile, as he shoved both hands into his pockets, shoulders relaxed. The wind whistled softly, its tune pleasing to the Yellow Flash, as his blonde tresses swayed to its melody.
“That's a load of crap. You're just looking for a good excuse, you perv.” growled Bunta.
“Ok, maybe his children after him, are meant to do great things?”
“Just wait till Kushina hears about this.”
