Ultimate Gohan is the strongest non-fusion character in the series (ignoring the abomination that is GT). He takes this easy.

Ultimate Gohan > Super Buu > Evil Buu > Fat Buu > Majin Vegata

The reason why after Gohan escaped from Super Buu, he didn't fight Kid Buu and crush him was because Toriyama was getting pressure from the fans and his advisers to have Goku fight Kid Buu. Initially, Gohan was even supposed to get main character status in the final saga, taking over for Goku. So fan pressure is somewhat to blame for Gohan's decline.

Well I wouldn't put it like that parse, SSj3 Goku was still having trouble against kid buu, I don't think ultimate gohan would've fared better than how SSJ3 Goku fared.

If anything was plotted was that Goku and Gohan Potata fusion didn't happen, if it did majin buu would've died humiliatingly. Vegito is still leagues the best Z fighter ever.

According to the Kai that taught him to become Mystic Gohan, his form brings out the hidden potential of fighters, meaning he goes beyond the Super Saiya-Jin transformations, directly into his full strenght.
And during his talk with Gohan, Goku mentioned that his new form is almost as strong as his SSJ3 transformation, and hat he migh each him how to do it.(which eventually did not happen)

Gohan was the strongest. Super buu had a higher power level than ssj 3 goku. super buu was 32 billion while ssj 3 goku was 24 billion, yet gohan destroyed him. Gohan is the strongest.

The only time when he was stronger han Gohan was when he achieved SSJ2 in Majin form, which was shortlived when Gohan turned Mystic, a formed deemed stronger than SSJ3 by none other than Goku.
