Two Worlds: Chapter 6
Land of Colors

Everything was so dark to Johnny; he tried his best to grip onto something, but the walls were smooth, and the speed he traveled didn't help any. The fear of not being able to see a thing poured into his mind and filled up his heart with beats of a most frightening music that played throughout his entire body, which in turn caused his insides to dance in terror. Suddenly, Johnny saw the light, but thinking about what’s on the other end turned up the volume in his chest, which resulted in his anxiety jumping up and down on his trampoline of sanity.

He got closer and closer to the light, his heart pounded for freedom as if it was entrapped inside a burning prison. When he exited that tunnel of nightmares, he landed in a city that looked much familiar. In fact, it looked much like the Outer City. “Why am I at the beginning?” He asked himself.

“You’re not.” A voice said to him. Johnny knew the voice was close, but yet it sounded so distant to him, the sound of which was like a squeak of a mouse being carried from a distant land.

"Why is that?" Johnny asked curiously, while he searched for the whereabouts of this mysterious rodent.

"In order to throw off invaders, the three cities were remodeled to look exactly the same, a type of maze. This was done many years ago after an intruder made it all the way to the Outer City." Only a small fraction of Johnny's voice focused on the answer to his question, while the majority focused on a strange being, the size of this airborne creature was comparable to a crayon. Orange hair flowed down her back, like a waterfall during sunrise. Shimmers of purple shone from the iris of her wide and innocent eyes, Johnny was almost hypnotized by her colorful eyes and smile, Johnny knew her purple eyes was the source of this gravitational pull he felt, it tugged at his very soul while her smile replaced that soul with a spirit of love. The sensation was divine and overwhelming. Moments later, he felt the wind knock at his dome; the gentle breeze was enough to restore life back into that hard shell. The fairy knocked at his forehead; her soft, fragile wings constantly batted.

"Who are you?" Johnny asked as he took a step back to get a better look at this strange, magical creature.

"I'm a fairy, my name is Nimmy. What's yours?" She said as she hunched over while in the air. Her hands came together like two spiders that had embraced each other, legs tightly wrapped around one another; she placed this hug in her lap and just stared with those big, glittery purple gems of hers.

The effects from her mysterious and magical charm still resided within Johnny, not fully over it, he stumbled on his words as he answered her question. "I...I'm Johnny."

"Well it's a pleasure to meet you Johnny; I guess you've come to train huh. You don't mind if I watch, do you?" Nimmy stated as she flew forward and hugged Johnny's chest.

"W-why sure." Johnny said as he looked down at her; too afraid to touch her out of fear of "breaking" her. "Do you know where I'm supposed to begin?" Johnny asked.

"I do!" She said excitingly, her eyes glowed even brighter, and her palms hugged each other while her fingers the arms that kept that hug together; and she placed these hands of love at her chin while looking into Johnny's eyes.

"O-okay, so where do I--" Johnny was interrupted by the zealous fairy.

"Just walk three more feet, and your training will begin." The fairy said while she pointed in the direction for Johnny to walk, which was directly behind him.

Johnny turned around; nervousness began to find its way to his heart and then traveled through an intricate maze of veins and blood vessels. As soon as he crossed that boundary, there were hundreds of missiles in the air, fireworks littered the sky as the missiles crashed into each other, gunfire smothered the sound of any wind that could have been heard, laser beams tried to force its way through the invisible barriers that protected the building and landscapes of the middle city.

Nimmy became frightened as the missiles traveled in her direction at a deadly speed, trying to eat the sound for breakfast before having Nimmy for lunch. She spread out her arms, as if she welcomed her fate. Then, the missiles were forced to seek its meal elsewhere after being ricocheted off an invisible force field she shielded herself with. She watched as the Johnny she just met disappeared and reappeared, and transformations ranged from planes, trains, and cars; to robotic lions, tigers, and bears filled the intervals.

Hunger got the best of the missiles as they returned for a piece of Nimmy, she found herself putting up her shield more times than not. Not only repelling the missiles, but also explosions. On Nimmy’s end, it looked like they were banging against glass, like burglars trying to invade and steal her life. She surrounded herself with the shield and just watched helplessly, hoping that her barrier would stay strong against the barrage of missiles and explosions.

During Johnny’s transformation cycle, he managed to catch glimpses of an apparently scared Nimmy, doing all she can to protect herself. He was angry at himself that he couldn’t do anything; he was after all fighting for the power to protect. Rage and frustration began to fill his heart, his body like a pot that was about to boil over at any moment. As the liquids of anger filled to the rim of that pot, Nimmy noticed all missiles stopped in mid-air, she quickly fixed her eyes on Johnny. She saw him standing still, in his normal state, the only thing different was the glow of his eyes. He looked at Nimmy with the brightness of the sun in both eyes, yellow lights shone from those sockets. He had composure; perhaps he was a little too calm. Nimmy began to fill a bit uneasy and called out to him.

“Johnny, is that you?” She said as she moved in a little closer. He didn’t reply, in fact, he acted as if he didn’t know her at all. The sound of his heavy breathing was the only sign of life she got out that ton of metal. Suddenly, his eyes returned back to those bright blue streetlights; standing post on the cold and dark night that is his body. The barrage of missiles quickly resumed, as did his transformations. Nimmy quickly raised her hands and put them in front of her face, a reflex stimulated by the missiles that was coming to send her on a date with death. Before they reached her; the date was rejected by her barrier.

“Johnny! Don’t fight it, instead of trying to stop it, go with the flow and practice gaining control. Only then will you be able to stop it.” Nimmy stated before she lost sight of Johnny, due to the explosions that roared at that formidable fence that protected the house of the woman that turned them down again and again. Nimmy noticed that all the missiles had retreated, she awed at the sky full of explosions while Johnny willingly blew up the sea above. Nimmy was like a sea lion under that sea, her hands was like magnets that was repeatedly pulled away from one another; as she clapped in astonishment. The television in her eyes displayed the show she was so enthusiastically tuned into. Her skin exploded with colors, she stood and watched, amazed at Johnny’s quick adaption.

“This must have something to do with…whatever that was I felt from him earlier, that conformity between his will and his abilities must have remained, hidden in his subconscious. He just may be the one I’ve been waiting for.” Nimmy thought to herself as she approached Johnny while he put away his weapons one by one, and then ran towards Nimmy after he transformed into a panther.

“Did you see that, Nimmy?! I thought this was supposed to be super tough, but I aced it!” He said as he bounced up and down on his forelegs, his eyes meeting Nimmy’s as he circled her. “So what do you think?” Johnny asked.

She stared into his eyes before she answered; her mind dived into his soul and started to swim, like it was searching for something faint within a vast ocean. “I think you’re ready to tackle the next city.” She said as she smiled.

(Angel and company…)

Angel and her teammate was made their way to the Land of Colors, the earth trembled in their wake, caused by the monsters that roared from within their motorcycles. Their bikes were like the midnight, and in this dark blue sky, was the letters NWP. These letters found their solace within such an empty and lonely universe at the backend of the bike.

“So, you have heard the rumors of this land, haven’t you Angel?” Angel’s partner said, he was a shadow, the silhouette of a ninja’s attire was apparent. He holstered seven swords on his back, all being black as darkness. If one sword ran along his spine, the others were like his ribcage. His voice was deep and carried a hint of self-assurance.

“Of course I have, countless have come here to seek truth, but less than a handful has ever returned.” She said with a face of poise, as she looked directly ahead.

“And yet, you chose to bring only me.” The man of shadow replied.

“Two S3’s should be more than enough; you aren’t questioning my judgment, are you Drake?” She said as her as her eyes crept, looking around the corner to get a look at the ninja.

“No, definitely not, Angel.” Drake stated.

Angel inhaled and then exhaled, letting out a sigh. “If this place is really bad, then I risk losing even more than two teammates. Normally one S3 would be enough to handle any mission, so two is a little extreme. The two of us should definitely suffice.” She said as she held onto the handle of the motorcycle with one hand, and ran her fingers through her hair with the other.

“I understand. I’m glad that you chose me, nice to know you have such faith in me.” Drake said as he looked over at Angel.

“You’re one of the best, and also, there’s none I trust more with my life than you, Drake.” She said as looked over at him, and then put on a big smile, perhaps adding a little light inside that shadow.

“I am honored.” Drake said as he quickly turned away from her smile.

As Angel and Drake entered the Land of Colors, there was one gigantic bridge that reached from one end of the land, all the way to the other. In the midst of this bridge, the sky seemed to be wailing, an ocean fell from the sky, and this waterfall produced seas on the lands, along with rivers and creeks. The waterfall and bridge was sitting where the sky and earth met. Nothing else but land stretched as far as the eye could see.

The most noticeable thing however, was not the land that tried to rival the sky in size, nor was the sea the sky tried to drown its competition with, but the countless colors that inhabited the entire page. A single blade of grass contained over thousands of colors, these blades seemed to follow that old swordsman saying; “No two blades are same”. The colors seemed to be alive, as one blade did battle with the other, a fraction of the spirit of that sword passed on to the other; these colors actually traveled throughout the grass. The sky was a mirror of the land below it, or maybe the land was imitating the sky, and stealing its colors; taking it all in the form of a waterfall. Each water drop was like a beacon, a source of light that every color in the land traveled to; attracted to this humongous waterfall. No matter how many colors the water stole, it would live its entire life robbing the same house. The waterfall was the sun of this world; it shone beautifully and gave the entire land light; even in the form of rivers and creeks. Albeit a thief, it couldn’t still the attention of spectators, no, the bridge did that. A better look revealed the biggest rainbow Angel and Drake have ever seen, all the colors of this world seemed to travel on it, from one end of this world to the center; and into the waterfall. It was like a bridge that brought all the colors together.

“So this…is the Land of Colors.” Angel said as her jaw hung in amazement.

“We are the truth.” Countless voices said in unison.

“Are you…the colors of this land?” Drake said as he looked around him, trying to find the sources of the voices.

“We know all, we see all, we are the truth, and the truth should be colorful, don’t you agree? The truth should be beautiful, should it not? The voices sounded young and innocent, they always spoke together; trillions, no, countless of voices echoed throughout the land.

“We’ve come to seek this truth; there are some things I want to know. Are you the ones to tell me what I need to know?” Angel asked as she looked around curiously.

“We know why you are here; you only get to ask one question. We will tell you the truth, we cannot lie. However, if you ask another question, you will be turned into a color; and become one of us.” The voices said.

“This is ridiculously easy. Is this supposed to be why there have been so few that have returned from the La—“He was interrupted by Angel.

“Drake!” Angel said as she put her head down and let out a sigh. “That isn’t the question we’ve come to ask.”

“I-I’m sorry Angel, it isn’t like me.” Drake said in a shocked voice.

The colors remained silent, waiting for one of them to ask a question.

“I will make this as simple as possible, why did the dragons attack me and Johnny?”

“Simple, they were attacked first.” The colors answered.

“What do you me—“ Angel caught herself before she asked another question.

“This is bad, the mission is a fail since I can’t ask more than one question. We were supposed to discover the truth, but learned nothing. However, if they cannot lie, then that means we did attack them first? If this is true, then it could mean one bearing our symbol attacked the dragons. The worst case scenario is a traitor.” Angel thought to herself.

She gripped onto to the motorcycle tightly, and frustration showed on her face. “Let’s go Drake.”

“There’s a traitor in your midst?” The colors asked.

“You’re supposed to know that.” Drake replied.

“What if that traitor was here now, what would you do? The voices said to Drake and Angel.

“What are you trying to imp-“ Drake paused after realizing his potential mistake.”

“They are just trying to create conversation and hope we slip up. Let’s get out of here.” Angel said as she got ready to turn her bike around.

“As soon as we mention traitor, you’re awfully quick to leave, aren’t you Angel? You did in fact tell Johnny to continue on without you before the dragons’ retaliation, did you not?” The colors said. “You have yet to ask your question, Drake. What shall it be?

Angel stood quiet, looking Drake directly in the eyes. “Any explanation, however true, would be in the favor of these colors, which knows and sees all. I’ll leave it to you, I trust you to make the right decision.” She said.

“I understand now, whatever rule that requires you to tell the truth also probably requires you to tell us that we both each get a question. However, you withheld this at the beginning, and now I have to choose between inquiring about Angel’s allegiance, and the success of our mission. You use what you know against us, the more of us there is, the easier it is for you; you’d have more heads to mess with. For one to venture here alone, that would be the biggest headache to you. However, this place has such a notorious reputation, so you probably don’t get too many lone travelers. I am now even more impressed by Angel’s decision to only bring two, and she trusts me with her life, I applaud her; she made the right decision. You underestimated me, there’s no way Angel is a traitor. My question is…”

It was silent, neither Angel nor the colors uttered a word.

“Who attacked the dragons?”

A mark appeared on Drake, the mark of a rainbow burned into his right bicep.

“We will tell you, but first, let me explain this symbol. That is a symbol of truth, not even the Dragon King can deny it. The bearer of this symbol cannot lie until the truth of the events embedded in that rainbow has been spoken.

Angel was just staring proudly at Drake, letting her smile shine through his darkness. He did his best not to look over at her, but his eyes just kind of danced around hers, while he waited for the colors to continue.

“Now, the one who attacked the dragons is…a fairy named, Nimmy. She is allied with the NWP and as such, wears the symbol.”

“Nimmy?!” They both said in unison.

(The inner city…)

Johnny laid flat on his back, arms and legs spread out. No light shone through his eyes, it was like two black holes, absorbing everything into it; even Nimmy’s mind, as she stared deep into them. Nimmy looked around her, in her view was broken arms, arms that once touched the sky, these buildings littered the streets in pieces. The ground must have at some point tried to run away in different directions; cracks separated the earth.

“Not even the barriers were enough, I must not tell anyone of the power I witnessed here. This boy, he must be the one.” Nimmy said as she landed on Johnny’s chest.

Small blue lights in Johnny’s eyes flickered; he raised his head from the ground, and looked at Nimmy. The lights returned upon seeing her, he then spoke to her in the most serious and determined voice one could have.

“Let us both make war against the dragons.”
